Director – Venture Strategy and Operations

Director – Venture Strategy and Operations

Capital One Growth Ventures is looking for a Director-level person to join our journey to becoming the best corporate venture capital unit in the US. We are a small team with big ambitions and have already demonstrated growing impact to Capital One. The group is relatively new (approximately 4 years). We are now at a stage where we are seeking someone to help us transform into a scalable business. The Director of Venture Strategy & Operations will serve a critical role in the organization and will work across all aspects of the business.

Role Objectives And Responsibilities

Coordination and execution of strategic initiatives: Work with the group head and other team members to articulate and execute Venture strategy

Manage marketing and communication strategy: Coordinate internal and external communications (including PR and web updates); Develop marketing documents; Assist and communicate with executives across Capital One in decision-making, program management and initiative implementation.

Manage group and portfolio metrics: Outline and manage a process to calculate and record team-level and portfolio-level metrics; Work with the group to gain alignment on the metrics.

Improve current processes and coordinate organizational procedures: Work with various groups across Capital One (e.g. Finance, HR, Risk, Regulatory, Technology) to keep documentation, processes and procedures of the Ventures’ group up to date and in line with requirements.

Review, design and manage improvements to organization structure: Work closely with the group head and HR to identify gaps in skills across the organization and address them. Help with recruiting, interviewing, training and overall organization effectiveness.

Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage detailed and complex information in a rapidly changing environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience
  • At least 7 years of experience in consulting, business analysis, project, product or process management with cross-functional teams
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing visible projects which require the ability to manage cross-functional team members, remove obstacles and influence appropriately

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Six Sigma/Lean Black Belt Certification
  • 10 years of Consulting and/or Analytical experience
  • 10 years of Process Management experience
  • 10 years of Project Management experience
  • 10 years of People Management experience
