TEDCO is an independent organization that strives to be Maryland’s lead source for entrepreneurial business assistance and seed funding for the development of startup companies in Maryland’s innovation economy. TEDCO provides mentoring and funding in the early stages of entrepreneurial activity when an innovative idea is being developed to demonstrate marketable value, or has been developed but the start-up does not yet have sufficient proof of concept or revenue achievements to warrant more substantial investment from angel or venture capital funds, and when early-stage companies are attempting to broaden the marketable reach of their proven concept and need greater investment assistance to expand.
The Maryland Venture Fund is looking to hire an energetic, highly disciplined, team-oriented, self-starter to join the TEDCO team in Columbia, Maryland on a full-time basis.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the analyst may include:
· Assist with financial reporting and analysis of financing terms
· Maintain Salesforce and other internal reporting systems with up-to-date and accurate applicant and portfolio company information
· Ensure portfolio companies are providing timely, complete reports and payments as required by their funding agreements
· Routine correspondence with companies seeking investment
· Qualify and analyze new investment opportunities
· Conduct due diligence with quantitative/qualitative research on prospective new investments
· Provide support for portfolio companies including competitive positioning and waterfall analysis
· Research relevant tech sectors/startup financing trends and present findings to the team
· Attend pitch meetings with the investment team
· Represent the Maryland Venture Fund at local tech/VC events, conferences, and networking activities
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Skills/Qualifications
Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds and will be relentlessly curious, passionate about startups, and inherently resourceful. Additional qualities that we look for include:
· Up to 2 years of experience in Venture Capital, Investment Banking, Consulting or Finance
· A Bachelor’s degree in a Business, Finance or a related tech/biotech field
· Familiarity with and demonstrated interest in the startup ecosystem
· An understanding of the venture capital industry and deal mechanics including cap tables and waterfall analyses
· Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and complex formulas; financial modeling experience preferred
· Team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can deliver on projects in a self-directed way
· Strong project management and quantitative skills
· High attention to detail and accountability
· Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
· Preference for working in a fast-paced environment in which a commercial perspective on technical ideas are all highly valued

· Strong PC skills, proficiency with spreadsheet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, database applications (i.e., Access)
