- Passion for emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, startups, and innovation
- 2-4 years of work experience (engineering, R&D, venture capital, private equity, investment banking, consulting, business analyst, strategy, research-related, etc.) after completing your undergraduate degree
- Minimum of 1+ year of technical analysis or research relating to deep tech (AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, IIoT / IoT, robotics, etc)
- T-shaped ability to perform a variety of horizontal and vertical research (primary and secondary methods) and synthesize a clear point of view
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively – both verbally and in writing – in English and extra bonus if in client languages (i.e. Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, etc.)
- Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities
- Exceptional analytical and structured problem-solving skills combined with the ability to clearly articulate action steps for solution implementation
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing independently day-to-day
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization – both client and Runway
- Proven experience managing/prioritizing multiple project timelines and delivery consistent results

A Venture Research Associate joins Runway’s Corporate Innovation Services team and works directly with Global 2000 clients to accomplish their innovation goals.

You will also work with many entrepreneurs across industries and technologies, from industrial IoT and mobility to blockchain and artificial intelligence.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
You’ll work in teams of typically 1-3 team members, playing an active role in all aspects of the client engagement. This includes deeply understanding clients’ technical specifications and selection criteria, gathering and analyzing startup information, formulating and testing new business hypotheses, and developing and communicating recommendations. You will also have the exciting opportunity to present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members.
Activities include but not limited to:
- Researching emerging technologies and providing executive level briefings on the most up-to-date landscapes (white space opportunities, saturation, technology definitions, etc)
- Analyzing technology, industry, and market trends and synthesizing this information for client teams
- Scouting and screening emerging startups based on corporate partners’ specific parameters, innovation objectives, and investment criteria
- Reaching out to startup founders to learn more about their business, technology, and traction
- Attending startup pitches, industry conferences, and networking events for primary startup research and ecosystem building
- Creating weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly reports for corporate partners with startup profiles
- Traveling internationally for client and ecosystem development 1-2 times / year (often Japan or China)
- Presenting to senior client leadership
