The Position
City Light Capital is seeking an energetic, passionate, and intellectually curious Principal to join our team. This position is ideal for a seasoned investment professional with significant experience in the early-stage venture capital space and someone who is passionate about impact investing. The position will be based out of our office in New York City.
The Principal will be responsible for the following:
- Lead or co-lead all aspects of equity investment transactions including sourcing, due diligence, strategic analysis, financial analysis and modeling, deal structuring, deal negotiation, and deal documentation review
- Develop and prepare investment materials for the Investment Committee that outline the strategic benefits of investment, investment terms, and other relevant information for potential investments
- Monitor operational and financial performance of portfolio companies; facilitate quarterly performance analysis for individual companies and full investment portfolio
- Assist portfolio companies with ongoing needs including business development, financial modeling, operational strategy, and investor introductions
- Cultivate relationships with industry VCs and other ecosystem partners to help identify and source investment opportunities aligned with City Light mandate
- Develop an “informed perspective” of City Light sectors, including managing and building brand and relationships with: external companies in the marketplace, industry leaders and members of the broader ecosystem
- Maintain deal flow database and proactively develop process improvements
- Conduct deep-dive research and market maps on thematic topics of interest
Ideal Qualifications:
- Extensive relevant professional experience; likely but not necessarily including originating, leading, and executing investments in VC or growth capital
- Being a key contributor in making and executing investment recommendations
- Working with and monitoring portfolio companies
- Demonstrable experience leading and coaching junior team members
- A strong passion for tech investing and knowledge of the VC ecosystem
- Board experience (advantageous, but not crucial)
- Healthcare experience a plus
- Experience working in heavily data-driven and analytic settings
