The Argo Ventures team seeks an exceptional college sophomore or junior (expected graduation in 2020 or 2021) for a unique Summer Analyst role at the intersection of venture capital, financial services, and emerging technology.
The Analyst will lead efforts to analyze investment opportunities by performing market research and financial analysis, meeting with entrepreneurs, and occasionally attending industry conferences. Moreover, the individual will be responsible for working directly with the investment team to develop research materials for each opportunity.
The Analyst will work closely with the Head of Argo Ventures (a Columbia College alumnus) to understand business fundamentals, conduct market research and financial due diligence, and draft investment memoranda to be presented to senior management.
The role is an extraordinary opportunity for a motivated undergraduate with interests in startups, technology, finance, and venture capital to experience and be a part of the dynamic growth of a small venture capital team. We are a lean team that values people first and foremost, and we expect to fully integrate the Analyst into our group for the summer.
We would like to emphasize that successful applicants are not expected to have previous finance, venture capital, or technology experience (we recognize that you are still in college!). However, it is critical for applicants to be excited about technology; curious about the fundamental applications of finance and insurance; and enthusiastic, humble, and willing to work on anything. Argo Ventures prioritizes emotional intelligence, intellectual horsepower, eagerness to learn, and a “can-do” attitude in applicants.
What does a Summer Internship Analyst Team Member’s day to day duties look like:
- Develop a keen understanding of the insurance technology and financial technology landscapes by performing market research and industry analysis
- Support the Argo Ventures Team on an as-needed basis with analysis and research
- Conduct business, financial, and market due diligence to evaluate investment opportunities
- Support investment execution, including drafting investment summaries and vetting documents
What’s required for the position:
- Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills
- Solid academic history with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (will consider lower if supported by a strong explanation)
- Clear intellectual curiosity
- Passion for technology, financial services, entrepreneurship and/or venture capital
- Be a sophomore entering his or her junior year or a junior entering his or her senior year
