VC Associate @ Bedrock in New York City, NY

Bedrock is a venture capital firm on a mission to back bold technology companies violating the narrative today that will come to define profound new truths tomorrow. The firm was founded in 2017 by Geoff Lewis (former Founders Fund Partner and Lyft Board Director) and Eric Stromberg (founder of Oyster, acquired by Google). Today, Bedrock manages over $475 Million across two funds.

Our primary shared value is radical open-mindedness: We constantly question popular narratives in search of hidden truths. We believe this is especially useful in venture investing, where capital tends to be dramatically over-allocated to startups that align with the strongest market narratives. Rather than chase the narrative, Bedrock’s approach is to invest in promising companies that are underestimated precisely because they are incongruent with the storyline. Our starting point, therefore, is to search for narrative violations. When we find one, we do the work to build passionate conviction in opportunities that most overlook. Our office is based in New York City, but we are geography and sector agnostic investors.

The Associate Role

As an integral member of the Bedrock investment team, you’ll work closely with the Partners on evaluating investment opportunities and making investment decisions. You will develop your own investment ideas and independently source companies, as well as drive analysis and due diligence for opportunities identified by others. The Associate will gain exposure to our broad network and receive extensive mentorship. We expect you to grow rapidly along with our ambitious organization in the years to come, and endeavor to evolve the role over time to align with both your personal goals and Bedrock’s growth.

We believe this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity suitable for a one-of-a-kind individual. You should be a free thinker with a deep knowledge of and passion for technology as demonstrated by prior work experience and/or personal projects. You should thrive in a very small and intensely collaborative team environment while also being self directed and operate with a strong sense of agency. We’re open to a range of different backgrounds, however you should have at least 2 years of work experience, genuine intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated history of making decisions that seemed counter-intuitive to others but proved correct for you over time.
