THE POSITION
Comcast Ventures is looking for a new member of the team to join as a Staff Accountant focused on operations, accounting, finance and reporting for our portfolio of investments; working alongside the Comcast/NBCUniversal operational finance teams in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. We want to work with people who possess a high attention to detail and can think analytically.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
-Support the daily accounting functions of the team including: invoice processing, purchasing, quarterly accruals, T&E tracking and board reimbursement billing.
-Support the daily financing functions of the team including: execution of disbursements and proceeds and assisting with capital management.
-Responsible for maintaining the Comcast Ventures financial database systems.
-Assist in the preparation of GAAP & operational financial reports.
-Assist in the completion of the quarterly financial close process.
-Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for both capital and operations.
-Work with portfolio companies to capture performance, company records, and relevant documentation.
-Work closely with Comcast and NBCU Accounting/Finance teams to facilitate transactions, reporting and planning.
-Interprets accounting data, analyzes reports and recommends action to be taken.
-Prepares fluctuation analysis of quarterly operating results.
-Reviews financial statements for operating trends and results.
-Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
-Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
-Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
-Prepares difficult journal entries, maintains complex ledgers, reconciles and analyzes specific cost account ledgers. Assists in the development and installation of accounting systems, cost accounting methods, procedures and controls.
-Establishes and maintains property accounting records. Reviews the preparation of various financial statements, records and reports compiled by lower level accounting support personnel.
-Prepares financial reports analyzing data for management review.
-Calculates payments to regulatory authorities based on a review of contracts and regulations.
-Ensures the balance sheet accounts are accurately stated based on compiled reconciliation procedures and agreement with source documents.
-Enters monthly journal entries to properly record accounting transactions, ensuring that journal entries have proper back up to substantiate the entry.
-Develops automated Oracle routines such as mass allocations and re-occurring journal entries.
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree or equivalent
FIELD OF STUDY: Accounting, Finance
REQUIREMENTS
-Generally requires 2-5 years related experience.
-Minimum of 1-2 years accounting or finance experience is highly preferred.
-Proficient in all Microsoft Office products; exceptional skills in Excel.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Experience with financial & enterprise systems such as Oracle/Essbase, Ipreo/iLevel, a plus.
-Comfort working in a loosely structured environment using agile project management techniques.
-Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
-Strong analytical and problem solving skills and a high attention to detail.
-Passion for technology, startups, and the venture capital ecosystem.
