SCJ currently has a New Ventures function, located at the company’s headquarters in Racine, WI. We are seeking a team member who will actively network and nurture relationships with the venture’s community.
This individual will promote SCJ within these networks as a viable company to partner with for future growth.
The role will identify and provide an initial analysis of companies for investment or acquisition that may be of interest to SC Johnson.
By acting as a coordinator for key interactions between SCJ and start-up companies throughout the U.S., this person will provide a key link between the headquarters and the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Objectives And Function Of The Role Include
Immerse with broader entrepreneurial communities such as those in, but not limited to, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Chicago, Austin and Denver.
Represent the “face” of SCJ to the entrepreneurial community.
Attend industry events (Expo Days, Start-up pitches, ecosystem meet and greets) to identify potential opportunities and communicate closely with New Ventures team.
Use connections within key ventures innovation ecosystems to network, identify and nurture opportunities and relationships that are of interest to SCJ.
Promote SCJ within those networks. Advise New Ventures team on those that are of interest to SCJ (within core SCJ exploration areas), as well as opportunities that are outside core explorations, but also of strategic interest to company.
Attend events to actively build and develop SCJ’s presence in the venture’s ecosystem.
Coordinate key interactions between SCJ and start-ups.
Receive inbound companies of interest and connections.
Shepherd appropriate candidates to business areas of interest.
Connect to internal champions, support introductions and assist start-up in navigating SCJ as a company.
Participate in the monthly deal process, including active participation in 2-3 vertical teams; work with Racine-based team on deal strategy development and refinement, deal sourcing, internal deal flow meeting preparation and processing.
Work on follow-up pre-diligence/internal alignment documents to progress key candidates.
Manage relationships with key external partners to enhance SCJ deal strategy and outcomes.
Participate in negotiations and deal structure, in order to provide feedback on how the team works with start-ups to strengthen ongoing collaborations and interactions.
Understand, immerse in and impact the New Venture team strategy and process thinking.
Share knowledge and learnings from key ecosystem geographies, including VC best practices.
Understand consumer trends and analyses (collect and analyze data on customer, consumer, competitor and category conditions and trends) to compare and contrast profiles.
Evaluate financial aspects of start-ups/small companies (funding rounds, annual sales and growth, valuation).
Synthesize reports and learnings to help shape market and company story.
Engage with SCJ corporate new ventures team on specific projects connected to the group’s business areas of interest.
Interface from a technological standpoint with key members of RD&E Racine-based staff to evaluate and prioritize opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
A four-year degree and a minimum of seven years of experience in a combination of marketing, corporate strategy, venture capital and/or start-ups.
An advanced degree is preferred.
Travel 30-50% per month.
Includes travel to Racine headquarters once per month, as well as travel to other hubs (depending on where candidate is located)

Ideally, the candidate should have ventures experience and a strong command of branded businesses. The position allows the individual to develop and grow general managerial skills, broader macro trend knowledge in exploration spaces, opportunity landscape assessment proficiencies, entrepreneurial capabilities and technical savvy.
