Responsible for evaluating potential opportunities for investment you will be responsible for market monitoring and sourcing, and supporting the Venture Principal with the monitoring, development and realisation of their respective investment portfolio.
The role
As the Investment Manager you will source, appraise and recommend investment propositions to Venture Principals and Ventures Director and/or investment committee, conducting thorough and robust financial, commercial, IP and legal due diligence when considering investment opportunities and assess potential risks for each investment. You will help negotiate terms and conditions to secure appropriate investment structures for investments and manage the drafting and completion of all necessary legal documentation throughout the entire investment process.
To monitor respective portfolio, attending boards as observer and helping to facilitate the appointment of NEDS (in collaboration with HR Partner) and where appropriate, place follow on investment in portfolio companies following the achievement of planned critical milestones is required.
As you develop relationships with co-investors to secure timely and relevant investment from suitable third parties for new and follow on investments you will guide and influence portfolio companies to deliver profitable and timely exits in line with the funds commercial model.
Using examples of best practice and ensuring the application process is continually refined and improved to provide the best possible client service as you develop and maintain links and networks with key stakeholders and intermediaries to source suitable investment opportunities is key to the role.
Maintaining and developing technical and industry specific knowledge to ensure best practice and compliance in investment activity is also key to success.
The person
You will have:
o Previous venture capital, finance or corporate finance experience.
o Experience of co-investing in partnership with business angels, Institutional Investors, and corporate venture funds.
o Experience in consultancy, advisory or similar activities which have led to strong commercial skills.
o Experience of reviewing business plans and strategy at an organisation/company level.
o Understanding of broad business processes (marketing, technology, finance, management etc.)
Experience in a start-up, Private Equity, Venture Capital or M&A would be a benefit.
To understand all aspects relating to equity investment in either early stage or later stage investing is required as is demonstrable expertise in and knowledge of key emerging technology sectors and an understanding of the technology transfer and IP commercialisation process.
