VC Analyst @ Emerge Venture Lab in London, England

Emerge Education (LinkedIn, Crunchbase) is a hands-on early stage investment firm focused exclusively on the education technology sector. The Emerge Education Team have founded companies that have created over $200m in value, including Mendeley (acquired by Reed Elsevier) and Tigerspike (acquired by Concentrix), and have been seed investors in some of Europe’s best-known edtech successes, including Pi-Top, Wonde and Lingumi.As an Analyst on the Emerge Education team, you will be involved in all aspects of Emerge Education’s investments, fundraising and investor management. You will help with sourcing, analysing and doing due diligence on potential investments, and work on expanding and reporting to Emerge Education’s investor base.Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyse financial data in the edtech sector and produce regular reports on topics like M&A and investment activities in different geographies
  • Meet with founders that have started edtech companies that Emerge Education may be interested in investing in
  • Take part in due diligence and market research to help evaluate potential investments, including writing investment memos
  • Support fundraising and investor relations activities, including reaching out to new potential investors and regular reporting to existing investors
  • Support the Emerge Education portfolio, including attending board meetings

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate has work experience in venture capital, technology, investment banking or consulting. You are passionate about education and technology’s role in education in particular. In addition, you possess an impressive intellect, deep analytical skills and a superb work ethic, coupled with an ability to offer well-founded and actionable advice and opinions.

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering
  • 1-2 years work experience at a tech start-up, VC, investment bank or management consulting in analytical role
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication
  • Ideally a strong understanding of, and passion for, the edtech ecosystem
  • Self-driven to learn, organise, and improve
  • Ability to be highly productive and comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Entrepreneurial. Can do the work but will ask the questions to adjust course
  • Positive problem solver, open-minded
  • Transactions experience is a plus
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPivot or Tableau are a plus
