Vantedge Ventures Capital Management (VVCM) is seeking a Principal to join our healthcare venture team in the Midwest. VVCM is looking for someone with significant experience in leading or ready to take the next step in the growth of a healthcare-focused venture capital fund. This is an opportunity to build a small investment team, work in a multi-faceted innovation environment, and share the vision for making an impact on the cost and delivery of healthcare across US Health Systems.
Working closely with Vantedge Ventures’ commercialization program teams across the Vantedge Innovation Alliance (VIA) and the Advance Accelerator (AA), the Principal will help source investment opportunities that have the potential to significantly advance the Fund’s and Vantedge Ventures’ goals. The Principal will lead deal teams on the negotiation, execution, growth, and portfolio management of early-stage venture capital investments, including serving as a board representative or observer for certain portfolio companies. Depending on experience and qualifications, as well as performance for VVCM and the Fund, consideration for a Managing Director or Partner positions in the future are possible.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and hire supporting team for fund organization and capitalization
- Participate with the fund’s general partners in fundraising efforts
- Participation and facilitation of the firm’s Investment Committee
- Source investment opportunities, develop rapport with internal and external stakeholders, coordinate due-diligence, construct and negotiate term sheets, attend to legal documentation, close and exit investments, with a particular focus on early-stage healthcare technology opportunities
- Source potential investments through active outreach and relationship-building to the entrepreneurial community, strategic partners, network partners (e.g. angel investors, commercial bankers, accountants, lawyers and investment bankers) and colleges and universities
- Partner internally with other personnel in the various business operations and functional areas to understand and inform their strategy, evaluate specific opportunities, gain business sponsorship, and identify specific activities to deliver strategic value
- Oversee deal teams in close collaboration with program officers and the Fund’s legal counsel
- Prepare and present business case analysis and risk evaluation for investments, including proposals to the Fund’s Investment Committee
- Lead transaction negotiations and communicate successfully with entrepreneurs, management teams, syndicate partners, and other stakeholders, including attorneys, advisors, consultants, and Board Members
- Oversee performance reporting to Fund’s Board of Advisors, General Partners and regulatory agencies as required
- Assist in preparation of review materials and investment memos for Fund’s governing bodies, including Investment Committee and Fund Advisory Board
- Manage portfolio company investments through frequent interaction with company leadership (management, board, investors) and strategic partners; and represent the Fund as a board member or observer, ensuring progress against programmatic and financial benchmarks
- Ensure high-quality interactions and provide clear and consistent communications with all internal and external colleagues and partners
- Thoughtfully seek contacts with key external stakeholders within the healthcare industry and venture community to find solutions to unmet programmatic needs
- Selectively represent and speak on behalf of the Fund at relevant events and conferences
- Work independently to identify issues, formulate and design plans, and execute ideas for major health system impact
Characteristics:
- Experience with capital formation, term sheet preparation, delivery and negotiation, and early-stage portfolio company management
- Experience with accepted methods of cash-flow modeling and investment valuation techniques
- Experience with financial reporting and portfolio company management communications with Board of Advisors, limited partners and other stakeholders
- Strong health system venture market relationships and transactional experience
- Strong understanding of healthcare technology and digital health equity market
