First Analysis seeks an equity/venture capital technology analyst. This Chicago-based role, which is central to our established business model (30+ year track record in venture capital, equity research, and investment banking), combines 1) public equity research with 2) direct responsibility for sourcing, executing, and managing venture capital investments.
The analyst will work closely with a senior analyst in growing a robust investment research franchise in a specific emerging-growth technology sector. The analyst will co-cover a set of relevant publicly traded companies with the senior analyst and provide lead coverage of an adjacent set of companies in the same franchise. The analyst will also support and partner with the senior analyst in sourcing, executing, and managing venture capital investments. Our model places a heavy emphasis on establishing thought leadership by publishing in-depth white papers and related research reports and extensive networking among each sectors’ executives, investors, and other key players.
First Analysis uses its integrative research process to uncover and leverage the best opportunities in emerging high-growth segments in technology and healthcare for the benefit of the investors and growth companies it serves, as well as our broader society and environment. The integrative research process combines 1) dynamic investment research on thousands of publicly traded and privately held companies with 2) thousands of relationships among executives, investors, and other key participants in our focus areas, yielding a deep, comprehensive understanding of each sector’s near-term and long-term potential. First Analysis has a 35-year record of serving emerging growth companies, established industry leaders, and institutional investors in its focused areas of domain expertise, both through its venture capital investments and through First Analysis Securities Corp. (FASC), which provides investment banking services and institutional equity research. FASC is a FINRA-registered broker-dealer and member SIPC.
Key attributes of a successful analyst are excellent writing skills, strong interpersonal relationship skills, outstanding analytical skills, sound business judgment, and a high degree of creativity, internal motivation, and intellectual curiosity. (Financial modeling and securities analysis skills are fundamental.) The strongest candidates will likely have at least one year of public equity research experience, ideally on the sell side.
