The BrightEdge team uses a double bottom-line approach by evaluating both mission-driven social impact and financial returns on investments to help fuel the Society’s life-saving programs in research, access, and health equity.
A successful Principal Investor will demonstrate the ability to think critically about investment opportunities and be project-oriented, with the capability to independently lead projects and investment deals from start to finish. The role requires a high level of self-motivation and will have a meaningful level of responsibility from the outset, including independently identifying, researching, and executing investment opportunities. A key responsibility of this role is developing and nurturing strategic relationships with top level venture firms and other key for-profit organizations. This role is responsible for evaluating the validity of investments and structuring of deals; enabling the strategy of the companies where BrightEdge is involved, and communicating the overall impact investment strategy to sophisticated audiences.
This position often includes extended hours and meeting with clients outside of the office setting. The fast-paced working atmosphere is sometimes tempered by slow periods. It is in these anticipated slower times that the effective investment associate reviews and oversees current portfolios for maximum return on given investments and continues to develop and refine thematic investment thesis.
Major Responsibilities
- Leading the investment process: (a) reviewing investment memorandums; (b) developing investment theses; (c) drafting term sheets; (d) conducting extensive diligence; (e) building operating / financial models and returns analyses; (f) preparing investment committee presentations; and (g) engaging with potential investors.
- Identify and execute on potential investment opportunities independently and with minimal supervision.
- Occasionally speak on behalf of BrightEdge at public events.
- Oversight of Investment Associate work product.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Investment Associate.
- Financial and valuation modelling.
- Market research, comparative/industry analysis.
- Preparation of presentation materials to board and investment committee.
- Analyzing investment opportunities.
- Participating in deal due diligence.
- Creation and review of regular cash flows, budgets, business and operating plans.
- Compilation of investor reporting.
- Liaison with investors and key stakeholders.
- Preparation of investor presentation materials.
- Following market trends, researching companies and analyzing industry dynamics.
- Meetings with potential investment targets, operating partners and key industry players and gathering information for the purpose of evaluating potential investment opportunities.
- Monitoring portfolio companies including: (a) building relationships with management teams; (b) actively monitoring market, competitive and company developments; and (c) maintaining and updating valuation and detailed financial models to reflect current information and thinking.
- Actively presenting and participating in discussions regarding investment trends, opportunities and reports.
- Writing both internal and external memos and presentations.
Position Requirements
Post-graduate degree in oncology-related science field (PhD-preferred); Degree or coursework in accounting, finance, business, economics or statistic (MBA preferred). 5+ years experience within venture capital or strategic investments with a focus on cancer-related life sciences investments.

- Travel may be required upon removal of COVID-19 restrictions, and is estimated to be less than 15%

The full compensation range established for this position begins at a minimum of $112,500 annually.* Actual starting pay may differ based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education. *This mininum rate is specific to Colorado.
