VC Associate @ First Round Capital in New York, NY

First Round is a venture capital firm focused on helping companies at the very earliest stages become the next big thing. Taking cues from the startups we back, we operate more like a company than a firm and are constantly experimenting with new ways to grow our community and help our companies access the knowledge and connections they need.

From our start, New York and its entrepreneurs have been core to First Round. Since our first investment in NYC over 12 years ago, we’ve partnered with over 80 New York startups — including many leading the charge like Blue Apron, Flatiron and Warby Parker.

We’re excited about the future of NYC tech and are now moving to grow our team in the city.

We’re looking for two new team members to join our New York office and work alongside partners Chris Fralic and Hayley Barna. The role might be best described as a venture gap year (one that would last 18 months) — a great fit if you’re a couple years away from grad school, transitioning from operating to investing or already working in venture and looking to level up.

Part investment associate/part community builder, these roles will help us continue to grow our network and bring more remarkable New York founders into the First Round community. The ideal candidate loves spending time with entrepreneurs and has a healthy appetite for conversation, a passion for startups, and a strong point of view on emerging technologies and business models.

Interested? If so, here’s more on what we’re looking for:

You’re no stranger to startups. You don’t necessarily need deep knowledge of venture capital, but your career to date demonstrates a passion for technology. Top candidates will have 2+ years of experience working at a VC, a startup, a larger tech company or in startup services — such as tech-focused banking, consulting, recruiting or law.

You’re well-versed in tech and endlessly curious. You can hold your own in conversations about a wide range of technology companies and trends, and you have a tendency to dig deep on obscure ideas. You excel at learning from others — you know how to ask great questions and people love to answer them for you.

You’re a community builder and conversation starter. You make new connections everywhere you go and are always finding ways to introduce people for mutual benefit. You might have started clubs at school — maybe you run a meetup or moderate a subreddit. Regardless, you have a track record of bringing people together and amplifying the exchange of ideas.

We believe the strength of our team comes from our diverse and inclusive workplace, and we welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives.
