“FirstMark is a leading venture capital firm, based in New York. We invest in early stage technology startups, typically at the seed or Series A level, all over the country and occasionally in Europe. We invested early in many companies that went on to define their industry, such as social media (Pinterest), eCommerce (Shopify) or gaming (Riot Games). We have an exciting portfolio of investments in areas as diverse as commerce, enterprise technology, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, education and health. While we currently have about $1BN under management, we are a small, passionate and very dedicated team of professionals.
As an investment associate, you will engage in a broad range of activities including: supporting our investment process (market research, internal review documents, modeling financials and cap tables, due diligence and analysis, term sheets generation, etc.), supporting the FirstMark portfolio companies and community (help with research, recruiting, events, introductions, etc.), and occasionally representing FirstMark at various industry events and within the startup ecosystem, particularly in New York.
The ideal candidate would possess deep analytical skills, strong intellectual curiosity, a superb work ethic, and the ability to offer well-defended opinions. As we are a technology VC firm, you should have a strong interest in technology, the Internet and all things startup.
While we are open to a broad range of experiences, we’re ideally looking for someone who is 2 or 3 years out of college, and has worked at a top professional services organization (consulting, investment banking or equivalent). Any involvement in the tech startup world (anything from side projects to actual professional experience at a tech startup) would be a major plus, but is not a requirement.
The role is intended to be a 2 to 3 year program, after which we hope you’ll join a startup, launch a company, or potentially pursue a graduate degree.
