Dundee Venture Capital (Dundee VC) is a venture capital firm focused on early-stage technology and e-commerce companies built in the Midwest. Dundee VC is a distributed firm with offices in Omaha, Chicago, St. Louis and Minneapolis. Dundee VC has over $85M under management and typically invests initially between $500k and $1.25m in high-growth, seed-stage startups. The firm is currently in the process of raising and investing its third fund, a $50M fund aimed at leading the highest-potential seed-stage investments and building on the reputation of success associated with the Dundee VC name.

The Position: Associate

Dundee VC is currently seeking an associate to join our team in Omaha, St. Louis, Chicago or Minneapolis. The associate’s primary role will be to build an extensive network in the venture capital and startup ecosystem and identify the highest quality investments for the fund. The associate will also be a central part of Dundee VC’s thematic investing process: developing deep market understanding in a few carefully chosen spaces and clear hypotheses about where opportunities are to drive venture-scale returns. More generally, the associate will be a critical member of the investing team, working with Dundee VC’s senior members to source deals, perform due diligence, and support portfolio companies.

Responsibilities

  • Build a deep network among startups, venture funds, accelerators, incubators, universities, and other community partners to help identify the highest-potential investments for the fund
  • Create lasting relationships with founders and represent the fund such that we can win in a competitive investment environment
  • Perform primary and secondary research to develop and maintain Dundee VC’s thematic investing areas
  • Identify investment opportunities and assist with the deal sourcing process
  • Conduct financial and business diligence (e.g., industry analysis, competitive position, growth potential), evaluate market size, and potential merger and acquisition activity
  • Develop financial models and perform ad hoc financial forecasting, analyses and research
  • Play a supporting role in the evaluation, structuring, and financing of Dundee VC investments
  • Communicate frequently with the senior members of the team, as well as the senior management of our portfolio companies
  • Assist in all aspects of the investment process
  • Prepare financial models, diligence research, company overviews, internal memos, forecasted return scenarios; present findings to the team
  • Participate in the on-going management and monitoring of both financial and operational aspects of portfolio investments and development of reports and other communications to investors regarding: present valuations of investments, liquidation scenario modeling, and quarterly reports to investors

Background and Credentials

  • College degree and a distinguished academic background, MBA or other graduate work preferred
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience (for example in venture capital, investment banking, consulting, private equity or a high-growth startup)
  • Advanced Excel, strong financial modeling and quantitative skills
  • Basic understanding of and curiosity about venture capital terms and concepts (J-curve, IRR, ROI, Carried Interest, CAGR, Capitalization Table, etc.)
  • Strong writing skills
  • Track record of personal accomplishments
