Halcyon’s Founder and Managing Partner is Mike McCormick. Mike has spent nearly a decade in venture capital, most recently as a partner at $1.5bn+ VC firm, GPV, where he was an early stage backer of several unicorn companies.
Halcyon Ventures is partnered with Halcyon Futures, an entrepreneurial nonprofit that helps leaders take on ambitious projects in AI safety and security. In the last 18 months, we’ve helped our members start a dozen new orgs and companies, which have collectively raised $200m+ in funding. These include Goodfire, Lucid Computing, Transluce, Seismic, and Fathom.
About the Role
We’re looking to bring on an investment team member. This person will be a right-hand and thought partner with Mike, helping to build and run all aspects of the firm.
We’re open to a range of experience levels, from scrappy early-career professionals to seasoned investors or startup operators ready for a Principal or Partner-level role.

What you’ll do
- Source, evaluate and execute investments
- Support portfolio companies and founders
- Help shape the firm’s strategy
- Develop investment theses and drive research projects
- Build a great network and serve as an ambassador for the firm
- Help host and attend events
- Support with running the firm’s operations
Attributes of ideal candidates
- Deep interest in the coming wave of powerful AI and its implications for society
- 2-10 years of relevant experience relating to AI, startups or venture capital
- Strong network with founders, particularly in our focus areas
- Highly motivated by Halcyon’s mission
- Thoughtful, kind, and high EQ
- Entrepreneurial vibe – energized to create your own opportunities and run with projects independently
- Technical experience like software engineering, AI model training or cybersecurity
- You live in San Francisco or are excited to move there
