Founding Investor — Discipulus Ventures
Full-time, in person in El Segundo, CA
Apply here: https://airtable.com/appsy0g5VEoVQ3mez/pagRCp21hO2JNpVcg/form
Discipulus Ventures (Forbes piece here) is an early-stage hardtech and critical-industry fund and residency based in El Segundo, CA. We have invested in founders like Augustus Doricko from Rainmaker, Ted Feldmann from Durin, Peter Goldsborough from Rune, Denver Rayburn from Framework, and many more. We are backed by Palmer Luckey (founder of Anduril/Occulus), Antonio Gracias (founder of Valor Equity Partners, second-largest investor in SpaceX after Musk), Kevin Hartz (co-founder of Eventbrite, founder of A* Capital), and many more great folks.
We’re hiring our first full-time team member to work directly with the GP. This is a founding role that spans investing and operations — the title is Founding Investor because the investing work is the heart of it.
This is a key role for the firm. You’ll work directly with the GP on everything from sourcing and picking companies to running Cohorts and pitching LPs. You’ll have a front row seat to building the best hard tech program in the world.
Year-one outcomes
The clearest measure of success is sourcing: if you’ve originated 5+ founders we go on to invest in, this role is working — full stop. Everything below supports that goal.
By the end of your first year, you will have:
- Sourced 5 of the 10 founders for a Cohort cold — originated the relationship yourself, ran the first call, wrote the initial memo
- Taken every first call from inbound applications (alongside the GP to start) and built your own filtering system that surfaces the best to the GP
- Helped improve our sourcing/filtering engine — every founder, every touchpoint, automated follow-ups, defined pipeline stages from sourced through offer ● Hosted 6 community events (bonfires and dinners) and 2 large events ● Generated warm intros for our portfolio companies into the funds that matter — and helped bring co-investors into our deals
- Supported Discipulus founders with investor, customer and hire intros, guidance around fundraising/hiring
- Coordinated with LPs and founders on co-investment vehicles
In service of that, you’ll also:
- Help run every cohort logistically end-to-end — housing, volunteers, food, venue, day-of — and help write the playbook so it’s repeatable
- Develop and execute our media strategy alongside the GP
Who you are
- Driven and care deeply about American manufacturing and the reindustrialization movement
- Energized by being around people
- Have helped build something from zero to one and owned an important piece of it ● Have built a real network in some corner of the world — doesn’t have to be VC ● Comfortable with the messy reality of an early fund, lots of context-switching ● Strong writer/communicator/storyteller
- Learn fast — you should expect to be running your own deals within 12 months ● This isn’t a stepping stone — we want someone who’d be excited if this were a 10-year job
- Based in or willing to relocate to El Segundo. This is an in-person role This job is not for you if…
- You want to start your own fund in the next 2 years
- You see this as a stepping stone to a bigger VC
- You can’t name founders off the top of your head you’d want us to back ● You need a defined scope and clean handoffs — this role is the opposite ● You haven’t built a real network yet in some corner of the world
- You’d rather be behind a screen than in a room
Comp
- $100K–$150K base salary
- Carry in Fund II, vesting over the fund’s life
- Events and travel budget
How to apply
Fill this form out: https://airtable.com/appsy0g5VEoVQ3mez/pagRCp21hO2JNpVcg/form The main questions:
- The most impressive thing you’ve built or organized, and your specific contribution 2. Your sourcing plan: where you’d hunt for the next 10 Discipulus founders, the specific communities/scenes/companies you already have access to, and 5 named founders you’d start with this week
- One thing we’re doing wrong
