Capital 49 is a venture capital fund set up by the founders of Airwallex, a global fintech platform, to invest in high-growth technology-enabled opportunities. The fund primarily invests into early-stage companies in fintech, software, e-commerce and AI verticals across the US, UK and Europe.

As an Investor, you will support partners in identifying, evaluating, and making investments into early-stage companies that fit the fund’s mandate and drive value creation for our portfolio companies. This role requires some investment experience and network within the US, UK and Europe fintech and software space. We prefer candidates based either in San Francisco or New York.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and lead potential investments. Research and write investment memos as needed
  • Support Partner’s efforts in due diligence in potential investment targets, including writing investment memo, financial modeling, and discussions with investment targets’ management team
  • Work with portfolio companies as the day-to-day point of contact. Track company progress closely, keeping the team up to date on their metrics and progress
  • Lead the fund’s internal and external reporting work streams, including quarterly LP reporting, internal reviews, etc.
  • Work with rest of the Airwallex organization (commercial, product, engineering, etc) to uncover opportunities and obtain insights on potential investment targets
  • Develop and maintain relationships with others in the ecosystem, including VCs, startup founders, and potential talent for startups
  • Liaise with fund admin team for admin-related matters

Qualifications

  • Experience in early-stage tech investing ideally with specialization in fintech or software
  • 4+ years of work experience as an investor or founding member at startups
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally across a diverse group of partners and operations team members. Be able to quickly build trust with other team members as well as entrepreneurs and broader strategic networks
  • Excellent active listening skills combined with the ability to develop a nuanced point of view that can be comfortably shared and refined with other team members. Ability to know the right questions to ask, as well as when to listen and learn
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills with an emphasis on thoughtful, clear communication. Experience simplifying and distilling complex concepts for publication
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent prioritization and task management skills
