VC Internship @ Translink Capital in Palo Alto, CA

Translink Capital

Translink Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Palo Alto with over $1B in assets under management.

We are backed by some of Asia’s largest multinationals such as Hyundai, LG, Foxconn, Japan Airlines, and others. Our mission is to partner with entrepreneurs and add value by connecting them to our Asian partners as customers, channel partners, R&D partners, or suppliers.

We typically invest at the seed to Series B stage, with an emphasis on leading/co-leading Series A rounds. Our average initial check sizes range from $1-10M. We are sector/industry agnostic and have invested in various areas such as AI, cloud, education, healthcare, mobility, and sustainability.

We were founded in 2007 and are currently investing out of our new flagship Fund V. We are headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices in Beijing, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Tokyo.

The Opportunity

The venture investment team is looking to add an ambitious and high-energy member for the summer program. You will have the opportunity to work closely with all members of the firm, as well as our strategic partners in Asia. You will be given tremendous responsibilities and be actively involved in the entire spectrum of the venture capital practice including sourcing, diligence, portfolio management, and fundraising. This is a great opportunity for someone with previous venture experience to build on their skillset, or for someone outside of venture capital to learn the trade.

This is a paid summer full-time program, with potential of a full-time offer after the program.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Identify and source emerging investment opportunities by developing your own investment theses.
  • Leverage Translink’s platform to build out your own network in the startup community.
  • Lead due diligence efforts and become an expert in your area(s) of coverage.
  • Draft investment memos to support proposed investment decisions.
  • Collaborate and support portfolio companies on strategy and/or key operational projects.
  • Network and collaborate with our corporate LPs on innovation initiatives.
  • Share thought leadership by being an active member of the startup/investor community (e.g., writing blog posts, attending conferences, hosting social events, etc.)

Core Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s/MBA program.
  • Self-starter that takes initiative. We’re looking for a person that’s self-motivated and can get things done. You will be given lots of autonomy to drive firm-wide impact.
  • Have an inherent passion for technology and investing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with entrepreneurs and investors of all backgrounds.
  • Positive attitude, team spirit, and ability to be culturally-aware and thrive in a multi-cultural setting.
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience (we recognize “relevant” is a subjective word, but past experiences in consulting, investment banking, corporate development, business operations, product management, or engineering could all qualify).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior investing experience
  • Technical background (computer science, engineering, math, physics, etc.)
  • Strong existing network in the startup ecosystem
  • Conversationally fluent in either Mandarin, Korean, or Japanese

Location

This position is located in Palo Alto, California. While we prefer the candidate to have a desire to move to Silicon Valley for the full-time position, we will support a hybrid policy for the summer program.

Compensation

Translink Capital anticipates that the monthly salary for this position could range from between

$7-8k/month. The base salary will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s credentials for the role, including education, qualifications, and type as well as length of experience. Any offered salary is also based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, and the position’s wage range. The salary range listed does not include any applicable long-term incentives or other forms of compensation or benefits.
