At White Star Capital, Montreal is a key Canadian hub alongside Toronto. You will combine local founder relationships with the reach of an international team, exchanging ideas across markets and helping companies grow beyond their home market. Our four core investment themes are Vertical SaaS, Physical AI, AI Models, and Data Infrastructure.
What you will do
- Originate opportunities. Map priority sectors, identify promising companies early, and build a sourcing pipeline across Canada through founder outreach and ecosystem relationships.
- Shape investment views. Lead deep dives into emerging technologies, test business models with founders and experts, and turn your findings into investment theses and published insights.
- Own diligence workstreams. Assess markets, competition, products and teams; interview customers; analyze financials and unit economics; and model valuations, returns and downside scenarios. Identify what supports the investment and what could undermine it.
- Support investment execution. Turn diligence into clear investment committee materials and recommendations. Work with senior investors on transaction structuring, coordination and closing.
- Help founders scale. Support portfolio companies on commercial priorities, market research and international expansion, drawing on the firm’s experience, global network and relationships across the portfolio.
- Lead fund operations initiatives. Take responsibility for projects that strengthen how the fund operates, alongside improvements to investment workflows and pipeline management.
- Build White Star’s network. Develop founder and investor relationships, represent the firm at industry events, and connect ideas and opportunities across our international team.
What you bring
- At least two years of experience in venture capital, growth equity, investment banking, management consulting, or an analytical or commercial technology role, including growth or business development.
- Curiosity about technology and startups. You investigate how businesses work, question assumptions, and form your own views about emerging markets and companies.
- Strong financial analysis and modeling skills. You are confident in Excel, understand financial statements and forecasts, and can challenge the assumptions behind a business plan.
- Clear written and verbal communication. You can explain a complex business, defend a recommendation with evidence, and discuss risks directly.
- The ability to earn founders’ and colleagues’ trust through preparation, careful listening, constructive questions, and reliable follow-through.
- Initiative and judgment in managing competing priorities. You take ownership of your work, improve how it gets done and collaborate across offices.
- Ability to work in Montreal, with the necessary work authorization.
Additional strengths
These are advantages, rather than requirements.
- Relationships with founders and investors in Montreal or the wider Canadian technology ecosystem.
- Ability to work in both French and English.
- Proficiency with AI tools and agents for research, analysis, or workflow improvement, with careful checking of sources and outputs.
- Experience building technology communities through events, dinners, workshops, and hackathons, or sharing insights through writing, podcasts, and other content.
What strong performance looks like
You bring the team companies it should meet and research that sharpens its investment thinking. Your diligence exposes the questions that matter and supports a clear recommendation. Founders turn to you for insight and follow-through. Across investments, portfolio work, and fund operations, colleagues trust you to deliver.
