VC Associate @ Horizon in San Francisco, CA

Horizon

I’m hiring an Associate at Horizon. The perfect candidate is someone who wants a call option on becoming one of the world’s greatest venture capitalists.

You do not need to be certain that you want to spend your entire career in venture. I’m not looking for someone who already considers themselves a fully formed investor either. In fact, that’s a bit of an anti-signal.

I care more about a history of achievement than a particular pedigree. You should be unusually ambitious, insatiably curious, extremely competitive, and genuinely interested in meeting and helping interesting people. You probably have 1-4 years experience, although perhaps a little less or a little more.

Some investing, startup, or technical experience is helpful, but not strictly required. I would rather hire someone extremely bright and open-minded than someone who has memorized the standard VC playbook.

You should also be internally motivated, comfortable with self-directed work, and willing to spend significant time in San Francisco. We will speak almost every day and work closely to find exceptional founders, develop investment theses, support portfolio companies, and build the firm’s internal systems. But I will not be physically looking over your shoulder.

My aspiration is that this person eventually becomes better at seed-stage investing than I am, so I expect to spend a lot of time teaching everything I know. This likely means a negative return on my time for the first few months, which is why I’m looking for someone who wants to stay for at least a few years and take the opportunity seriously.

If that sounds like you, I’d love to hear from you: send me an email at careers[at]horizon[dot]vc. Please tell me about your proudest accomplishment, an example of your insatiable curiosity, an example of your desire to meet and help very talented people, and a link to your socials.
