Position Summary:
As a Venture Capital Associate at Fathom, you will play a role in evaluating, modeling and managing investments in innovative startups. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team of experienced investors and entrepreneurs, while also gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends. The Associate will assist in all aspects of the investment process, from sourcing and due diligence to portfolio management.
Key Responsibilities:
Deal Sourcing and Screening: Proactively identify and source potential investment opportunities within the firm’s focus areas. Conduct preliminary evaluations of startups to assess their alignment with fund objectives.
Due Diligence: Perform in-depth due diligence on selected startups, including market analysis, technology assessment, financial modeling, and competitive landscape analysis. Collaborate with the investment team to assess the viability and potential of investment opportunities.
Financial Analysis: Build and maintain financial models to evaluate the financial performance and growth potential of startups. Analyze investment risks and returns, helping to inform investment decisions.
Investment Execution: Assist in the preparation of investment memos and presentations for the investment committee. Collaborate in negotiating deal terms and conducting legal and contractual reviews.
Portfolio Management: Support portfolio companies by providing strategic guidance, monitoring performance, and helping to identify growth opportunities. Regularly communicate with portfolio companies to track progress and address challenges.
Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive dynamics within the deep tech sector. Contribute to market intelligence and insights that inform investment strategies.
Networking and Relationship Building: Develop and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, co-investors, and industry experts to build a strong network within the deep tech ecosystem.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., finance, engineering, science), advanced degrees considered a strong plus.
- 2-4 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or a relevant startup role with strong track record
- Strong analytical and superior financial modeling skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Passion for technology and innovation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.
- Legal and regulatory knowledge related to venture capital investments is a plus.
