VC Analyst @ Roo Capital in New York City, NY

Roo Capital

Roo Capital is hiring an Analyst to join our investment team in-person full-time in our New York City office.

Roo is an investment firm focused on backing exceptional software and AI businesses, with particular focus across Applied AI, Vertical AI, Cybersecurity, and Healthcare. We invest with a concentrated approach and work closely with founders from the earliest stages of company building.

What makes Roo different is our integrated Capital + Talent + Growth model. Beyond investing, we bring executive search capabilities through Roo Search, our integrated executive search firm, as well as hand-on operating support, and a network of more than 40,000 executives, founders, and operators that we actively leverage across sourcing, diligence, recruiting, and portfolio support.

We’re a close-knit, fast-growing team and we’re looking for someone who wants to become a full-stack investor.

The Analyst Role

Analysts at Roo are integral members of the investment team and get exposure to every part of the job.

You’ll help source new companies, meet compelling founders, research dynamic markets, build investment theses, conduct commercial and financial diligence, prepare investment committee materials, support deal execution, and work directly with companies after we invest.

Because we operate with a lean team, there isn’t a long hierarchy between the Analyst and the people making investment decisions. We expect junior investors to develop their own perspectives, speak up in investment discussions, build relationships across the ecosystem, and increasingly take ownership of opportunities as they earn it.

A Path We’ve Seen Work

Two members of our investment team, Zane Fracek and Joaquin Lopez May, started at Roo as Analysts after investment banking and have progressed rapidly as the firm has grown.

Zane has supported the execution of investments including GoTu, Steer, Scamnetic, and Muse, among others. Joaquin has supported the execution of investments including Comp AI, Taurus, Hipp Health, and Kinstead.

Those experiences have meant much more than building models or preparing materials. They have included founder meetings, customer and market diligence, investment committee work, transaction execution, and continuing to work alongside companies after investment.

We include this because it reflects how we think about the Analyst position. We are not hiring someone to remain an Analyst indefinitely. We want to find someone with the potential and ambition to grow their long-term investing career at Roo.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is driven, intellectually curious, resourceful, and eager to take ownership early.

You should enjoy digging into new markets, developing a point of view, and being willing to defend it. We want someone who takes initiative, builds relationships naturally, and is excited by the process of finding and understanding great companies.

We expect most candidates to have 1-3 years of professional experience, with investment banking and buy-side among the backgrounds that translate naturally to the role. Prior venture capital experience is not required.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who wants to learn the craft of investing and grow quickly within a small team.

What You’ll Work On

The role spans the investment lifecycle – sourcing and thesis development, founder meetings, market and competitive research, financial analysis, diligence, investment memos and IC discussions, deal execution, and portfolio support.

You’ll also help us continue building Roo. We’re constantly improving how we source, evaluate, and support companies, and we want the Analyst to contribute to that rather than simply inherit an existing playbook.

How to Apply

We care a lot about how you think and what you find interesting, so the application includes a few short questions in addition to the usual background information.

The position is full-time and in-person in our Meatpacking District office in New York City.
