In-Q-Tel (IQT) is a not-for-profit strategic investor serving the U.S. national security community. The National Innovation Policy Division educates and informs U.S. policymakers about the geopolitical dimensions of technology and innovation.
Job Overview:
Working with the Strategic Issues Group, the Research Analyst will support the production of policy analyses related to specific technologies, national security, and great power competition. The role entails research, writing, and organizing policy workshops and educational outreach.
*This position is 1 year contract with the possibility of extension and/or conversion to full time employment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct background research on technology and innovation policy issues.
- Support drafting and development of policy research reports and issue briefs.
- Help organize and capture findings from workshops, roundtables, and other engagements with policymakers, outside experts, and private sector actors.
- Identify and create opportunities to communicate research to external audiences.
- Manage administrative tasks including scheduling, note-taking, event coordination, and briefings in support of research development.
- Contribute to publication processes, including citation checking, image searches, and editing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an international relations, political science, economics, or other relevant field of study.
- 2+ years of professional experience in or exposure to national security, commercial technology, or U.S. innovation policy.
- Experience conducting research and analytical projects (please include one sample with application).
- Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative information and write clearly about complex issues.
- Interest in a wide range of technology policy topics.
- Ability to entrepreneurially problem solve.
- Comfortable asking questions and seeking assistance.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
