The Role

Carina is looking for a Senior Associate- Investment Management. This new role reports to the Co-Founder/ COO.

The Senior Associate will support the team in evaluating, negotiating and monitoring investments that further Carina’s charitable mission. You’ll participate in or lead all aspects of the investing cycle: landscape research, financial modeling, structuring, due diligence, and document negotiation. Post-close, this role will take a hands-on approach, acting as a resource for our portfolio companies, helping them execute strategic initiatives. This Senior Associate will also have the opportunity to be a board observer for investments and support the team in preparing for board meetings.

We are looking for someone with international deal experience across many domains, structures and check sizes.

Responsibilities:

  • Market and industry research: landscape reviews, trends analysis, prior transaction evaluations
  • Evaluation: evaluate opportunities that would support Carina in meeting its strategic goals, help manage the pipeline, assist with initial screenings
  • Investment analysis and execution: financial modeling, due diligence, deal documentation, negotiations and investment committee recommendations
  • Monitoring and portfolio support: oversee compliance, reporting, board participation and general strategic support
  • Work with Co-Founder and external legal and audit teams on all regulatory and tax compliance matters related to philanthropic investments
  • Support ad hoc data analysis projects.

Skills and experiences you’ll need to bring:

  • 3-6 years of relevant transactional experience.
  • A degree in business, economics, or quantitative field; MBA or quantitative Masters ideal but not required.
  • Excel/Sheets and database savvy. Capable of building a variety of modeling tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting and valuation concepts.
  • Solid communicator, ability to interact with external advisors, funders and founders.

Big pluses:

  • Experience working in or adjacent to the education, research, or gaming industries
  • Exposure to non-profits and/or startups

Preferred Location: Remote and/or Southern California. Open to a fully remote US-based position with light quarterly travel.
