Investor Relations / General Partner – Venture Capital Firm – Remote

You are a professional with outstanding skills at identifying, developing, and working with family-office and similar investors. You are ready to combine this with your proven business skills to become a General Partner at an emerging VC firm.

Greatscale Ventures is a small emerging fund manager based in San Diego. We make early-stage investments in ethical, impactful software and AI startups, and provide extensive hands-on help to the portfolio companies while they are small. Our typical target investors are family offices, trusts, and foundations. Our typical portfolio company is a capital-efficient, Internet-heavy startup located in or near Southern California, or at a minimum in the USA.

Both General Partners are former operators (CEOs and CTOs) of software companies. We seek to add a third General Partner with strong abilities in investor relations, especially fundraising, from VC, micro-PE, or similar background. Additional skills in financial management or other aspects of the VC business would be a plus.

Our business runs mostly remote/distributed, so you can work from home, but if you are in or near SoCal this would be a plus.

  • Strong industry experience as founders, operators, and builders, from micro-cap to Fortune 500 companies.

  • Tendency to be involved from very early (pre pre seed) and write a series of 3 or more checks, with plenty of openness to early exits as well as long holds.
  • We actively help our portcos to develop, reduce risk, and increase performance with KPIs, strategy work, and actual staffing assistance.
  • Seeking you as a true partner, not just a functional manager.

Responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Owning and running the investor pipeline
  • Filling the pipeline with new LP prospects
  • Early-stage fundraising, including getting and performing initial meetings
  • Managing ongoing communication and relationships with LPs
  • Collaborating on fund strategy, including financial and other investor terms
  • Leadership and collaboration on fund marketing, outreach, PR
  • Contributing to financial and other management of the firm
  • Where appropriate, mentoring or materially assisting portfolio companies, either as a Board Director or otherwise
  • Depending on your skills, driving or contributing to deal making with portcos

Compensation will include very substantial participation in Fund upside, plus a modest base salary from the management company, plus further compensation for services rendered to portcos. As a small firm, we are able to customize your compensation format to suit your skills and priorities.

We have been in operation for over 5 years, but growing slowly. It is time to grow more. Your first major assignment will be to help us raise our next Fund.

Qualifications. The ideal applicant for this position should have most or all of the following:

  • Experience succeeding in a VC, PE, holding company, incubator, or similar investment management environment
  • Demonstrated ability to bring your own structure, motivation, and discipline to your work, without having to be supervised or externally motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and run an investor development pipeline
  • Strong track record of identifying, cultivating, and landing new investors
  • Outstanding communication and relationship development skills, including sales-related and marketing-related skills
  • Preferably, demonstrated high-level skills in financial management, company analysis, deal making, or other major aspects of running a VC firm
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with a wide range of investors and collaborators, across a range of situations and circumstances
  • Highly self-motivated, with a much stronger than average desire to achieve, deliver, and lead
  • Demonstrated comfort working with tech businesses (software, Internet, etc.)
  • Sterling reputation for ethical & reliable conduct, with 100% integrity and honesty
  • Demonstrated interest in contributing to society, such as through mentoring, civic development, philanthropy, volunteering, or similar
