Growth Fund Director @ Wittington Ventures in Toronto, ON

Website Wittington Ventures

Background

Wittington Ventures (WV) is a Toronto-based, multi-stage investment platform that partners with exceptional entrepreneurs across North America and beyond to build enduring, category-leading businesses in consumer, healthcare, food, and climate. Through our Growth Fund, we invest in scaled consumer products and services businesses, often at critical inflection points where strategic capital and operational insight can drive outsized long-term value.

WV is a thesis-driven investor with a differentiated ecosystem. Our affiliates include some of Canada’s most influential consumer and retail platforms including Loblaw, Shoppers Drug Mart, Choice Properties, Holt Renfrew, and Joe Fresh, providing unique strategic insight, partnership opportunities, and distribution advantages for our portfolio companies.

We are seeking a Director to join our close-knit investment team within the Growth Fund. This role is designed for an experienced investor who can independently source, diligence, execute, and steward investments, while helping shape fund strategy and portfolio value creation.

Role Description

The Director will play a core investment role across the full lifecycle of our growth investments – from thesis development and sourcing through transaction execution, board-level engagement, and exit planning.

The ideal candidate brings strong judgment in evaluating consumer businesses, deep financial and strategic acumen, and the credibility to engage as a trusted partner to founders, management teams, co-investors, and operating executives. The role requires comfort across a range of transaction structures, including control and influential minority investments, complex capital structures, and active ownership.

In addition to deal execution, the Director will help refine the Growth Fund’s investment thesis, identify structural opportunities and risks within subsectors, and contribute meaningfully to portfolio strategy, governance, and firm-building initiatives.

While this is a Toronto-based role, we are interested in speaking with exceptional candidates across North America who bring relevant growth and consumer investing experience.

Responsibilities

Deal Sourcing & Theme Development

  • Originate proprietary and thematic investment opportunities through research, conferences, and networking.
  • Develop and refine subsector-level investment theses informed by consumer behavior, unit economics, competitive dynamics, and technology enablement.
  • Build and deepen relationships with founders, management teams, advisors, bankers, and Wittington affiliates to generate high-quality deal flow.

Diligence and Transaction Execution

  • Lead initial screening of opportunities and oversee diligence workstreams.
  • Serve as deal quarterback, driving commercial, operational, and financial analysis.
  • Build and review detailed financial models, including operating cases, valuation, and returns analysis.
  • Prepare and present investment committee materials.
  • Partner with legal, accounting, and third-party advisors on confirmatory diligence and transaction execution.

Portfolio Company Support

  • Engage post-investment at the board and/or observer level.
  • Support portfolio companies on strategic initiatives, talent, business development, and future financing or exit planning.
  • Leverage Wittington’s operating ecosystem to unlock strategic partnerships and operational insight.

Fund / Firm Support

  • Play a key internal role in managing internal reporting processes, including investment monitoring and valuation analysis.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or economics.
  • 4-7 years of experience in growth equity, private equity, venture capital, investment banking, or a relevant operating role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading investments, ideally at the growth or later stage.
  • Deep interest in consumer businesses.
  • Proven track record of deal execution, including sourcing, diligence leadership, and investment committee presentation.
  • Advanced financial capabilities, including modeling, valuation, and capital structure analysis.
  • Sound commercial judgment with the ability to balance qualitative insight and quantitative rigor.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high-ownership mentality and comfort operating on a lean team.
  • Thoughtful, intellectually curious, and collaborative with a low-ego orientation.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to engage productively with founders, advisors, and corporate leaders.
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, and accountable, with consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and shifting priorities.

What We Offer

  • A total rewards package that includes competitive compensation including a long term and short-term incentive plan.
