SE Ventures is a €1B VC Fund backed by Schneider Electric, a Global Fortune 500 industry leader in Climate Technology, Sustainability, and Industrial Automation. SE Ventures is currently investing out of its €500M Fund II in new start-ups, incubations and fund-of-funds that operate at the interlink of sustainability, electrification, and automation while also managing 35+ start-ups from its €500M Fund I portfolio.
Working alongside the SE Ventures team, CFO of SE Ventures will be the financial partner of this dynamic team. She/he will report to the CFO of Schneider Electric’s Innovation at the Edge business with a dotted line to the Managing Partner of SE Ventures. She/he will liaison with Schneider Electric’s global finance community and be the brand ambassador of SE Ventures with start-up ecosystem. This is a high-profile job with direct visibility into the exciting world of category defining and highly disruptive technology start-ups in Climate, Sustainability, AI, IoT, Edge Computing, Cyber and SaaS areas.
SCOPE Of WORK
Fund performance: to ensure accurate and fair evaluation of fund performance
- Publication of portfolio report: monthly accounting flows (investments, returns)
- Conduct valuation for the portfolio companies with the support of investment teams (twice per year, coordinate the review by external advisor and address the questions of SE external auditors.
- Manage frequent valuation updates for direct investments, calculation of IRR
- Fund-of-funds: quarterly reporting updates, capital call payment requests, calculation of IRR
- Internal presentations: prepare financial slides for portfolio reviews, advisory board, and other finance presentations to track cash deployment of SE Ventures, IRR, etc.
Controlling & Treasury:
- Manage the operating budget and cash deployment and capital returns for SE Ventures and coordinate with Innovation at the Edge Central Cost Controller and Treasury and other internal teams, as needed
- Pilot projects: track value generation to various SE LOBs as a result of their partnership with a start-up
- Ensure accurate tracking of key performance metrics for the team
- Regular cadence with accounting, treasury, and other finance stakeholders
M&A
- Provide financials advice to SE Ventures team and coordinate between SE Ventures and SE M&A, M&A legal and tax in case of the acquisition of a portfolio company by SE
Governance and bookkeeping: to ensure accurate and fair evaluation of fund performance
- Ensure correct governance: approvals, memos, processes, reporting of financial performance, accounting requirements etc. Follow-up of audit recommendations
- Record keeping for portfolio companies: liaison with portfolio companies CFOs for upkeep of financial reports from each company and track approvals for investments, etc.
- Leverage digital tool Carta to ensure that portfolio company information is correctly uploaded into Carta dashboard, and customizing the offer for our needs (i.e. tracking cash runway, comparing actual results vs forecast at time of investment, etc)
Qualifications
- 5 ~ 10 yrs of experience in Finance (including controlling, FP&A, corporate finance) with at least three-year experience in valuation of early-stage private technology companies at a Big 4 or other reputable advisory firms, or in a fund (PE or VC funds) or M&A
- Strong interpersonal skill to work with senior leaders and proactive solution driven mind-set
- Demonstrated interest in energy management, climate technology and sustainability is a plus
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business Analysis, and an MBA from a top tier business school is a plus
- Preferred location: Boston but open to other locations in the US
