The Role
The Strategic Business Development (SBD) Partner will be part of the GTM Network team at Andreessen Horowitz. The GTM Network charter is to build a world class network of trusted executives to help serve their transformational needs by making connections to our firm and portfolio companies across the five verticals we invest in including enterprise, consumer, fintech, bio, and crypto.
The SBD Partner will work with a16z Crypto portfolio companies as the go-to-market subject matter expert to help portfolio companies drive towards their ambitious growth goals. A successful candidate has a breadth of experience and knowledge across the blockchain and crypto landscape, including: NFTs and gaming; Web 3 applications / Layer 0, 1, 2 protocols; dApps; blockchain/crypto developer tools; exchanges; liquidity providers and market makers; and DeFi/Payments.
Put into practice, this might look like holding a meeting about NFTs with a consumer brand company, then switching gears to discuss how DeFi may impact a financial institution in the next call. The level of conversation will greatly vary between strategic and tactical, such as sharing an assessment of the NFT market map in one meeting, then highlighting the listing process for various global crypto exchanges in another meeting.
This individual will lead the crypto GTM Network team, reporting directly to the operating partner. This person will work closely with the crypto General Partners, Deal team, and other cross functional teams responsible for Crypto.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, results-oriented partnerships professional who can help develop and guide the partnership strategy with both a16z portfolio companies and corporates that are interested in understanding the space.
To join our team, you should:
Have a passion for blockchain technology, the crypto landscape, and the innovative potential this emerging area presents across several verticals
Possess a demonstrated understanding across the protocol layers, middleware applications, gaming and NFT players, DeFi and payments sector, and other divisions within the space
Hold proven partnership expertise with decision makers within the global crypto native organizations as well as traditional organizations
Exhibit critical thinking and embody a growth mentality to master the quickly growing space
Have a perspective of how public vs private vs hybrid blockchain is leveraged across organizations
Within this role, you should expect to:
Advise the a16z crypto portfolio companies on product market fit, GTM strategy, partnership plans, and pitch/presentation skills
Build a thriving, global ecosystem comprised of both traditional and crypto-native organizations which are deemed as high priority for a16z crypto portfolio companies’ success and GTM motion
Develop workshops, content, and scalable programs to assist crypto portfolio companies’ growth
Conduct introductions, meetings, corporate briefings, events, and conferences amongst a16z crypto portfolio companies and network players
Share relevant market insights with a16z investment partners to better inform the market receptivity and the evolving investment thesis
Collaborate with teammates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, which may be assisting with domain knowledge and expertise for other verticals’ critical network players and acting as a Subject Matter Expert
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of business development experience with a solid understanding and knowledge of blockchain and overall crypto landscape
Proven experience in building and leading teams, and mentoring junior resources
Have a degree from a technical background, or have experience within a technical domain to showcase an aptitude for complex technology trends and concepts

Communicate and present at an executive level to share findings from portfolio companies and the network curated with a16z General Partners and Deal Partners
Collaborative and open work ethic, with a “we” mindset to help the broader firm succeed
Lead teammates through influence, interpersonal relationships, and example rather than authority
Comfort working independently in a remote environment to define OKRs and KPIs, and drive successful relationships with and for portfolio companies
