Today, HBCUvc is proud to announce that the HBCU VC Fellowship is accepting applications for its 5th Class of fellows.
Over the last four years, HBCUvc has worked to direct the formation and flow of capital to help increase opportunities for Black, Indigenous, and Latinx innovators. A key component of achieving this goal is increasing access to the venture capital industry by creating a pipeline from culture to capital. Training students and alumni from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to be conscious investors is at the core of our vision for a more equitable technology ecosystem.
Through the HBCU VC Fellowship, students and alumni from HBCUs learn the fundamentals of the venture industry, all while gaining practical, real-world experience distributing capital and building an invaluable network of mentors, peers, and innovators.
Since the program’s inception, the Fellowship has demonstrated significant growth year over year with interest from HBCU students and alumni growing. To meet the needs of our community and to broaden the scope of our impact, we are looking to welcome our largest class yet.
As with previous years, the 2021–2022 HBCU VC Fellowship will have a strong emphasis on expanding the investor pipeline of HBCU students and alumni, bringing fellows from the periphery of the venture capital industry to the center. Fellows will become aware of career opportunities that exist and will be prepared to advocate for building strong innovation ecosystems on their college campuses and local communities.
The Fellowship will consist of two parts. The first half of the program will emphasize exposure and education. The second half of the program will feature an optional hands-on practicum, applying the concepts and principles learned in the preceding semester through our $1 Million Dollar Lab Fund, which serves as a teaching fund for all fellows in the HBCUvc community.
HBCUvc will host two information sessions for interested applicants who wish to learn more about the program on July 27th and August 5th. Click here to register.
