Job Description SummaryMain responsibilities include providing support to PCI Ventures and Penn spin-out related activities, including company formation, legal and equity document preparation and review, business planning, fund raising, special project development, delegated board participation duties and other tasks as may be assigned by Executive Director of PCI Ventures. Specifically, this position is responsible for managing the medical and life sciences portfolio of spin out companies in the UPstart program, including medical device, diagnostics, therapeutics, and healthcare IT companies.
Job Description
The Assistant/Associate Director, Ventures will report directly to the Executive Director, PCI Ventures, and will interact with other members of the PCI Team to actively develop and manage the medical and life sciences portfolio of start-up companies and new venture initiatives based on Penn technology. Duties and responsibilities will include: performing due diligence on promising technologies and business ideas; developing strategic plans for promising new ventures; supporting the development of commercialization grant applications; recruiting entrepreneurs, investors and corporate partners to get involved with the companies; negotiating and drafting founders agreements, equity documents and other business formation documents; and overseeing numerous ventures through a role on the board of the Company. The Assistant/Associate Director will be expected to exhibit high ethics and integrity in all interactions on behalf of the University of Pennsylvania and the Center for Technology Transfer.
Qualifications: Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., M.S. or MBA) required or equivalent combination of education and experience in a medical related field, plus 3-5 years of relevant prior work experience; medical care experience, venture capital experience, start-up company management experience or new venture oriented technology transfer experience preferred; Ability to work independently and to manage a large, diverse set of tasks and projects with an attention to detail; Excellent time management and prioritization skills; Ability to develop and maintain a network of professional contacts; Excellent verbal & written communication skills; Strong work ethic; Team player; Excellent attention to details, follow-through & closing.
