Venture Capital Jobs Blog

Curated by John Gannon and Team

VC Analyst @ Tusk Ventures in New York City, NY

Tusk Venture Partners is the only venture capital firm that sits at the nexus technology, politics, and regulation. We invest in early-stage companies with founders bold enough to take on the entrenched interests of highly regulated markets, or with the vision to create new markets where no regulatory framework exists.

We are drawn to founders who question why things “can’t be done”, who challenge consumer norms, and don’t want to back down from incumbents.

We raised our first dedicated venture capital fund in late 2016. Since then, we’ve invested in over 20 startups including Lemonade, Bird, Ro, Kodiak, Alma, and Sunday to name a few. We work closely with our founders to support them in every way possible, from traditional platform functions to strategic communications, and political and regulatory support at every level of government across the United States.

We’re a young firm building a new model for venture investing. Because we’re not working off a template, every investment professional has the chance to make a meaningful contribution. This role is not to just about keeping the trains running on time, but helping us continue to build a top-tier venture capital firm. We put a premium on independence, candor, and transparency. We believe in holding people accountable and letting them succeed on their merits.

We are based in New York, but invest across the U.S. We typically make initial investments post-product, at the early stage (Seed and Series A), across almost all industries (except biotech), but focus more on consumer than enterprise.

The analyst role

As a part of the investment team, you’ll be responsible for helping source new opportunities, performing due diligence on potential investments, and playing a part in the firm’s on-going operations. You’ll be an important member of our team and will work closely with the Partners and other team members to support the firm and our growing portfolio. Your day to day responsibilities will vary widely and you’ll have to be comfortable managing multiple projects and tasks all at once. As an analyst at Tusk, you’ll have the opportunity to work across any number of industries and business models while developing your own skillset and investment ideas.

To succeed in the role, you’ll need a passion for technology and startups, the ability to thrive in unstructured environment, and the scrappiness to jump into projects and learn on the fly. You’ll need to perform well under pressure and have the drive to push yourself while maintain the compassion, empathy, maturity, and emotional intelligence to do so with an acute sense of self-awareness.

Everyone here operates with an “owner’s mindset.” While you will receive substantial mentorship, it will up to you to manage your own time and find your own voice as a member of the team.

Candidates should have 1-4 years of work experience and a demonstrated, sustained interest in startups, technology, and growing their professional networks. Previous experience in venture capital, growth equity, private equity, investment banking or management consulting is not required. Sound judgement, attitude, intelligence, and work ethic will trump “applicable” skills.

The position is based out of New York, and will report to a Managing Partner.
