Advanced Venture Capital Specialist –
Under limited supervision, identifies previously unknown startup companies, meets with, and evaluates these companies. Manages the online startup database. Works to expand DENSO’s network of investor relationships, and assists with managing startup investments, while negotiating and finalizing investment terms. May advise or mentor less experienced associates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Internal and external relationship building (R&D Group, DENSO Japan, external CVC groups, VC’s, etc.)
- Researches and identifies previously unknown startup companies. Meets and evaluates these companies and makes recommendations regarding pursing a venture capital or acquisition opportunity (domestic and international)
- Builds strong relationships with those companies identified to advance to the next step of investment relationship or acquisition
- Evaluation of startup technologies and business plans
- Term sheet, investment deal negotiation, and structuring (support role initially)
- Work with DNJP (DENSO Japan) GSD for internal approval process support
- Review and confirmation of investment documents (support role)
- Verification of investment deal closings (support role)
- Assist with management of existing startup investments (support role initially)
- Creating of internal reports and presentations
- Manages the online startup tracking database, makes necessary changes to the database to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency
- Regularly reports out to top management on the venture capital group activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Results to Achieve:
- Consistent identification of numerous new startups (over 50/year)
- Accurate and thoughtful startup company technology evaluations
- Expansion of existing CVC Group relationship network (over 10 new relationships per year)
- Efficient investment deal support and management
Travel Expectations:
- Domestic and international travel will be required in this position
- Position will require travel to Japan, Europe, Israel, and possibly India
- Average amount of travel will vary however, 1-2 weeks per month is estimated
Qualifications:
- Requires a Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA)
- 5-8 years of relevant experience
- 2-5 years in depth knowledge of automotive preferred
- Strong knowledge of venture capital or merger and acquisitions (M&A) deal making is required
- Strong knowledge of financial analysis and effectively applying results to form recommendations regarding possible acquisitions
- Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Explorer applications for researching information
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to independently evaluate and develop innovative solutions to complex situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills
- Ability to communicate with internal and external customers on issues of considerable importance
- Excellent customer service skills. Ability to promote and support a service oriented environment
- Excellent negotiation skills in order to lead high level issues that affect broad or multiple areas to resolution. Inspires trust in others. Serves as a role model in successful negotiation, uses influence in teaching others. Models win/win throughout the organization
- Continuous improvement (Kaizen) mindset and ability to apply this in an advisory capacity to advise the business on how potential deals will benefit DENSO’s long term initiatives
- Strong project management skills including, the ability to define, prioritize, and direct program, project, or process objectives.
- Identify customers/stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, and to coordinate and allocate resources in order to accomplish goals and objectives in an effective and timely manner
- Ability to successfully transfer knowledge to less experienced professionals
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as business needs dictate
