Jackson Square Ventures (LinkedIn, Crunchbase) is a focused, early-stage VC firm in San Francisco. We invest with very high conviction and take active roles with all of our portfolio companies. We are extremely selective and like to invest in “anti-hype” companies. We’ve been successful at it — over 14 years in venture, we’ve invested in 4 companies that have gone on to become unicorns with more coming soon. The 4 big winners are out of just 43 total investments. That hit rate is near the top of any list of venture firms.
JSV is focused on leading deals in SaaS and marketplace companies in the 5-30M valuation range. Some of our investments include, Docusign, Intacct, Responsys, Vormetric, Alienvault, Upwork, Strava, OfferUp, Seismic, and more.
We are looking to add a Principal to the investment team.
- SaaS or Marketplace operating experience is a must
- Former founding experience is great
- Proven record as angel investor or other is a plus
- Extremely high EQ
- Demonstrably strong network
- Exceptional understanding of key company metrics
- Exceptional writing and speaking ability is a bonus
Primary focus will be on sourcing new deals. Secondary focus on all other parts of venture — helping portfolio companies, attending board meetings, marketing, hosting events, etc.
The JSV culture and approach is different from other firms. We look for companies with strong fundamentals that will create enduring value. We don’t buy into hype. If you’re looking to invest in cryptocoin and drones, we’re probably not the right fit. We love founders that are down to earth, quietly confident, and focused on execution. We love businesses that are off the beaten path, tackling large markets, and focused on exceptional operations and making customers very happy. We believe sourcing and selection are important, but we believe stewardship is neglected by most VCs. We are active investors and love working closely with the founders we back.
We’re looking for someone who wants to build a career in venture — the right candidate will be on a 2-3 year path to a GP and will become a key member of the partnership. The first year of the job will be spent on a rotation program, working very closely with each GP for a period of 3-4 months.
