VC Manager @ Walton Enterprises in Denver, CO

Walton Enterprises Inc. (WEI) is seeking a skilled and entrepreneurial individual to join its Family Advisory Services Team (FAST) as an Impact Investment Manager. This individual will be responsible for advising and counseling family member Principals and supporting staff on the development of impact investment strategies. Additionally, the Impact Investment Manager will facilitate implementation and provide oversight of impact strategies through primarily fund, but also direct investments across all asset classes—including venture capital, equity, debt, real estate, and infrastructure. 

What you will do
• Earn trust of, and develop strong rapport with, family member Principals to effectively serve in trusted advisory capacity
• Lead strategic discussions with Principals and their philanthropic and other staff to develop social impact investment objectives and strategy
• Engage with Principals and their staff to align objectives across for-profit and not-for-profit capital deployment tools to optimize portfolio-wide impact
• Utilize a broad network to source relevant impact investment opportunities consistent with Principals’ goals and objectives
• Lead and supervise the quantitative and qualitative analysis of investment opportunities, including analysis of impact and investment merits and concerns, risk and return, strategy and process, depth of team and support resources, structure and terms, and impact measurement
• Provide thoughtful, relevant, and timely communication to Principals and their staff, including investment recommendations based on evaluation of financial and social impact performance as well as mission fit
• Obtain the third-party analyses—external consultants, tax, legal etc.—and Principal approvals required to execute investments
• Supervise ongoing monitoring and oversight of existing investments, including assessment of both economic and social impact returns, evaluation of co-investment opportunities and follow-on investments, and relevant benchmarking analyses
• Successfully navigate complex family dynamics and relationships
• Perform other duties as required and necessary to accomplish goals and objectives

Hiring Process
After an initial screening interview with a member of our HR team, qualified candidates will be invited (on a rolling basis until the position is filled) to complete a substantial take-home case study designed to assess the degree to which they meet the basic qualifications for the role. Candidates who successfully complete the case study will be invited to two rounds of interviews: first with the FAST team in Denver, Colorado, and then in Bentonville, Arkansas with senior members of Walton Enterprises.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of work experience in investments—preferably at an impact-focused investment manager or financial services firm
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in impact investing
• Demonstrated success working in an environment requiring confidentiality, integrity, and discretion
• Advanced degree and/or professional certification
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
