The Investment Manager will focus on our private investments portfolio and will report to the Managing Director. About the Work Unit
The Vanderbilt University Office of Investments (OoI) has a mission is to protect and grow the University’s the University’s $5.4 billion in endowment assets by delivering outstanding long-term investment returns for the benefit of research and scholarship. Our office is comprised of 27 staff members across three teams: operations, private investments, and public investments. Our focus is on public equities, hedge funds, commodities, fixed income, private equity, venture capital, natural resources, and real estate opportunities. We invest globally. Key Functions and Expected Performance
  • In conjunction with the Managing Directors, Investment Managers and Investment Analysts, globally source and meet with and assess prospective and existing private investment managers.
  • As needed schedule, coordinate, and perform onsite manager visits.
  • Prepare meeting materials.
  • Contribute to the written and analytical due diligence process on all investments. As needed to coordinate, oversee, and author manager due to diligence reports and utilize investment judgment to make recommendations.
  • The individual will be responsible for keeping apprised of industry trends and capital market research related to private investments and provide capital market data and commentary to help evaluate, communicate, and implement tactical views.
  • Network with industry professionals to enhance the success of the investment process.
  • Work with internal groups to carry out strategy-specific, risk, operational, and legal due diligence.
  • Utilize OoI’s manager database. We use the system to source, monitor, update, and cross-reference pertinent information regarding existing and prospective investment managers.
  • Analyze industry trends and conditions such as capital flows, valuations, and trends that may impact global capital markets.
  • Assist in highlighting and communicating private investment portfolio exposures as a part of total endowment risk assessment.
  • Assist in the preparation of communications to the Board of Trust Investment Committee.
  • May be responsible for the development and implementation of quantitative tools to enhance the endowment’s risk analysis and asset allocation process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is preferred.
  • At least three years of directly related work experience is required, but more than five is preferred.
