This position is responsible for helping the LDC Innovations program achieve its objective of investing LDC capital in innovative and disruptive early stage companies (corporate venture capital)
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Support Head of LDC Innovations in the origination, analysis and execution of early stage equity investments in the Food and Ag Tech industries:
- Originate new early stage preferred equity investment opportunities in accordance with the LDC Innovations investment mandate
- Lead due diligence, negotiation, structuring, and documentation of transactions within LDC Innovations program parameters and within defined budgets
- Identify and manage activities of internal and external experts in evaluation of deals in execution and portfolio management stages
- As appropriate, incorporate LDC Platform experts into deal evaluation and, as appropriate portfolio management activities
- As needed, act as board member for portfolio companies, while managing necessary LDCI follow –on approvals and keeping the Head of LDC Innovations (and LDC Management and Platforms as appropriate) informed
- Attend industry conferences to build network and grow awareness of LDC Innovations and mandate
Key Qualifications:
- 5-7 years’ experience working in a venture capital investment team (fund or Corporate Venture Capital Team)
- Must have deal origination and execution experience, including execution of market research, due diligence, financial modeling/valuation, interaction with management teams, and detailed understanding of common preferred equity and convertible debt attributes
- Established networks in VC or Food and Ag sectors
- Food and agriculture transaction experience is highly desirable
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to form well-educated opinions and defend them in vigorous debate
- Willingness to regularly work in excess of normal business hours as required

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
Bachelor’s degree in a business, economics, accounting or engineering related field
MBA and/or CFA preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Understanding of company/enterprise valuation principals including DCF and/or common VC valuation techniques
Must possess a basic understanding of GAAP and/or IFRS accounting principles
Must be proficient with Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Strong time management and organization skills with proven ability to multi-task under tight deadlines
Ability to complete tasks in a fast pace environment
Fluency in a written and spoken English

Working Conditions
Typical climate-controlled office environment. The extensions of regular working hours are regularly necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies. Will require extensive travel (up to 50%).
