DMGT is looking for a talented Director to build and run a new venture arm for its US business-to-business (B2B) portfolio. We need an individual with prior venture capital experience to focus on early stage investing in the InsurTech, EdTech, Energy, Property Technology, and Media sectors, focused on B2B business models.
DMGT’s sectors are undergoing rapid and exciting changes. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team that has unique insights into these changes, existing business footprints to leverage and capital to commit to capture investment opportunities presented by market disruption.
A typical day in the life of the B2B Venture Director will include:
In-depth analysis of market sub-sectors in conjunction with our Strategy and M&A Team
- Segment sectors of interest and assess sub-markets for attractiveness and opportunities to support deal-flow creation
- Assess strategic fit for DMGT
Develop and maintain relationships/deal flow with relevant VC firms, angels, entrepreneurs and third-parties (bankers, lawyers, accountants, etc)
- Leverage institutional DMGT relationships, including intrapreneurs resident at DMGT
- Convey DMGT strategy to VC/Entrepreneur community
In-depth analysis of investment targets
- Business case development
- Deal structuring
- Perform sensitivity analyses during negotiations
- Develop appropriate return/risk metrics framework
- Articulate strategic/financial rationale with particular focus on leverage that DMGT assets (e.g. OpCos)/knowledge will bring to the investment
- Ensure support/plan for value-add from DMGT OpCos
- Ensure metrics/accountability mechanism is in place for OpCo value-add to target
Lead pre-and post-deal closing process
- Prepare investment proposal and presentations to senior DMGT leadership
- Support deal closing
- Perform due diligence (with external support in some cases)
- Negotiate terms and legal document finalization
Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of investments
- Ongoing valuation of portfolio companies
- Generate regular monitoring reports
- Generate ad-hoc reports for top management based on specific issues/concerns
- Analyze progress for insights (e.g., value drivers, red flags)
Ongoing strategic value delivery
- Partner with investments and DMGT portfolio companies to deliver any partnership, alliance or other strategic benefits
- Continuously seek out opportunities for new strategic value creation. Work with Strategy and M&A Team to deliver
This job might be for you if:
- 3-5 years’ experience in B2B Venture Capital in the US
- Experience in B2B information services and/or technology sectors
- Top degree in Business administration/MBA
- Excellent analytical and technical skills
- Strong research and modeling skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
