Beringea, a leading venture capital investor with $715m under management across our UK and US offices, is looking to develop its UK regional investment activities with a particular focus on the North of England.
Probably already based in the North of England with a strong network of deal introducers and advisers, you will have direct experience leading venture and/or growth capital deals, with a demonstrable, positive investment track record. You will be expected to travel widely across the region with the aim of securing new investments and building a strongly performing investment team. In the early months you are likely to spend significant time at Beringea’s Covent Garden office with the existing UK investment team.
We are a rapidly expanding company with an outstanding portfolio and excellent historic returns. The role offers the entrepreneurial, motivated person, the opportunity to build and develop an office from scratch whilst drawing on the support of existing teams in London and the US.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Investment Origination
a. Build and maintain networks of intermediaries, advisers, and entrepreneurs from which to source investment opportunities
b. Identify and attend key industry events
c. Build relationships in the community to secure speaking roles at conferences, invitations to key events
d. Host dinners, outings, etc. with key influencers
2. Investment Execution
a. Reporting to the Partners, take a lead role on the day to day analysis and execution of investments
b. For each potential investment, evaluate the investment strategy, value creation opportunity, current management, market positioning and critical financial issues in order to identify the key opportunities and risks associated with the investment
c. Manage the due diligence process and third-party providers
d. Structure and negotiate investments, identifying potential structuring issues and creating solutions
e. Assist with the personal and business development of existing and new Analysts and Associates
3. Portfolio Management
a. Work closely on the board with senior management of investee businesses to develop and execute the value creation plan
b. In crisis situations, help team manage through and keep IC up to date
c. Ensure appropriate cash controls and forward cash flows
d. Monitor performance against plan and provide quarterly valuations of portfolio companies
e. Help manage the exit process
4. Build regional presence
a. Work closely with Beringea partners to develop the firm’s regional presence
b. Recruit appropriate investment and support staff in line with the growth of the regional business
c. Ultimately create a significant, valuable part of the overall Beringea business and participate in the firm’s overall ownership

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Likely to have post-graduate qualification e.g. MBA, CFA, ACA or equivalent
· Demonstrable investment experience with a strong track record, including exits
· Active network and positive market reputation
· Portfolio management and/or board experience acting as an influencer and motivator
· Entrepreneurial experience or non-traditional route to proven success
· Good cultural fit, able to work in a low-structure environment and self-manage when needed
