VC Associate @Spring Lane Capital in Boston, MA

At Spring Lane Capital, (LinkedIn, Crunchbase) we partner with strong management teams who are selling or using distributed assets with compelling customer economics in the energy, water, food and waste sectors. In these sectors, we focus on solutions that have significantly positive impacts on the sustainability of our natural resources, which we believe offer advantaged long-term benefits economically and socially. We’ve found that in practice, most such solutions have major physical components – “distributed assets” are those solutions using equipment or facilities smaller and less concentrated than traditional project finance can address.

Our experienced team has developed a unique investment model – Integrated Deployment Capital – to help these companies grow more rapidly, by providing the right capital for the right needs.

The Role

  • Develop and assess financial models – both project and corporate – to evaluate investment opportunities
  • Work closely with senior members of the deal team to conduct due diligence and support negotiation of transaction structures and help identify and mitigate key risks
  • Assist with creation of internal presentations and investment memos
  • Lead deal sourcing activities, both through responding to inbound opportunities and proactively identifying new ones, and serve as point person managing the firm’s pipeline
  • Review investment portfolio performance and assist the asset manager in analyzing and reporting results, as well as reviewing new project investments under prior commitments
  • Identify and research interesting sub-sectors for potential investment and create presentations summarizing findings
  • Assist with LP reporting requirements
  • Various ad hoc projects to be expected given the small team and recently-launched nature of Spring Lane

The Candidate

  • Excellent financial modeling skills
  • Intellectually and operationally independent with proven ability to communicate effectively with senior executives, both internally and externally
  • Strong exposure to project and corporate finance concepts, with emphasis on distributed assets (energy, water, waste-to-value, etc.)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset – can wear many different hats and succeed in ambiguous situations with limited oversight
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in project finance, infrastructure advisory, investment banking or consulting with diverse set of relevant transaction experiences
  • Passionate about returns-driven sustainability investing
  • Boston-based role, relocation assistance offered
