The New Energies business is investing in attractive business opportunities emerging in data-enabled, software-based mobility and energy services that leverage smart phone usage, increased data analytics and connectivity. These opportunities can leverage Shell’s core business by using our global reach, physical footprint, customer relationships and brand. Furthermore, these opportunities extend our core business by adding new and adjacent services – focused on making customer’s lives easier and more cost efficient and strengthening our customer connection points.

This team has been critical in finding the right digital opportunities, the right partners to work with, as well as gathering external insights about the rapidly changing environment. This team also keeps a database of potentially attractive companies and works closely with Shell Ventures, venture capital team to look at potential minority investment opportunities for learning and strategic purposes. Taking a market led approach is important given the speed of change.

Furthermore, to achieve the objectives noted above, the role will reside within the Digital Hub, based in San Francisco, which in combination with Global Commercial and Retail, has the mandate to create new ventures managed through an “Incubator Model” to support continuous rapid delivery and agile principles of working. The incubation will consist of cross-functional teams, including global and local business teams, developers, data scientists, strategic designers, venture architects, SMEs, growth marketers, and external contractors.

Responsibilities Will Include, But Will Not Be Restricted To

  • Collaborate with product, marketing, finance, legal and compliance teams to develop and refine go-to-market strategies
  • Identify synergies with other Shell businesses
  • Develop and lead scaling plans, including economic modeling and market analysis
  • Apply growth marketing tools to create efficient customer acquisition costs
  • Facilitate and lead customer ethnography exercises to extract relevant customer frictions
