Do you love startups and technology? Explaining to your friends why Kubernetes is the greatest CS innovation since the hypervisor or analyzing how Gen Z behavior on TikTok compares to other social platforms? Working closely with entrepreneurs and early stage companies?
We’re looking for an Associate to join our investment team, so if this sounds like you, tell us who you are and why you’ll succeed. We’d love to hear from you.
About Madrona
At Madrona, we’re inspired by game-changing technologies and the entrepreneurs who build them. Based in Seattle, we have been investing in early-stage technology companies in the Pacific Northwest since 1995, and we have been privileged to play a role in some of the region’s most successful technology ventures such as Amazon, Smartsheet, Apptio, Redfin, and Isilon Systems.
We take pride in partnering with founders and supporting our portfolio companies by acting as strategic board members and advisors on everything from defining business strategy, to hiring the best team, connecting with the right customers and partners, and advising on key financial decisions.
Role and Responsibilities
Associates are full members of the Madrona investment team: they work alongside Madrona partners and principals through each stage of the investment process, from initial meetings with entrepreneurs, through due diligence, and investment recommendations. Associates also work closely with entrepreneurs and Madrona portfolio companies, attending board meetings and actively supporting our companies on strategy, finance, operations, and product.
In addition to new company and portfolio company work, Associates drive strategic initiatives, such as research on new market opportunities and developing ways for us to systematically support entrepreneurs and the local startup community. Associates play a major role representing Madrona by participating in startup events and programs, partnering with the organizations that shape the Pacific Northwest startup community, and sourcing new investment opportunities.
While there can be flexibility, the Associate position is expected to roughly be a two year role. At the end of their tenure, past Madrona Associates have gone on to join startups, large technology companies, and other investment firms.

- Strong analytical abilities and modeling skills (such as experience at a major investment bank, consulting firm, or technology company)
- Experience with and understanding of technology companies, startups, and entrepreneurship (ideally from experience at a startup or large technology company)
- Entrepreneurial attitude towards operating in uncertainty and getting things done
- Passion and curiosity for technology and building products
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A technical background is a big plus, but not required
