Role Summary:
As an integral member of the GE Digital venture capital team, the Associate will assist the team leader on industry research, sourcing, leading and negotiating equity investments, and portfolio management in the fields of Industrial IoT, Big Data, AI/Machine Learning/Deep Learning/Data Science, Cloud, and Edge Computing, Cyber Security.
Essential Responsibilities:
Participate in all aspects of a venture investment including:
analysis, development of investment themes, modeling, due diligence, structuring, documentation, negotiation, legal considerations, sensitivity analyses for negotiations, portfolio development and investment committee presentations.
Develop an “informed perspective” of assigned sectors including managing and building relationships with: VC firms, startup accelerators, founders and other members of the innovation ecosystem.
Conduct in-depth analyses of investment targets including analytics around deal structuring and projected financial and strategic returns as well as drafting high level business plans
Monitor financial and operational conditions and industry dynamics of assigned portfolio companies and understand investment capital structure and shareholder rights to analyze portfolio and assist with quarterly reviews with senior management.
Manage and help update ongoing valuation of portfolio through
Generating regular monitoring reports
Generating ad-hoc reports for top management based on specific issues/concerns
Develop knowledge sharing documents for GE Digital in assigned sectors
Proactively work with the management and board of portfolio companies (in a board observer capacity) to execute growth and operational improvement strategies in order to maximize value of investments
Perform financial analyses and modeling as needed
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 3 years of work experience in venture capital, strategy consulting at top tier firm, investment banking or portfolio management
Eligibility Requirements:
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited to, drug testing, reference verification and background check.
Must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
Must be willing to work out of the Menlo Park, CA work location
Legal Authorization to work in the U.S is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.
Desired Characteristics:
Experience in venture or private equity investing is required
Strong technical background
Previous experience in enterprise software or industrial IoT is strongly desired
Demonstrated ability to conduct market analysis and competitive landscaping
Strong knowledge of finance and valuation concepts
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Content marketing skills, including blogs and social media, strongly desired
Demonstrated ability as a self-starter
Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
MBA strongly preferred
