Connecticut Innovations, Inc. (“CI”), Connecticut’s strategic venture capital arm, is seeking an experienced bioscience investment associate (“Investment Associate”) to join and assist our team for a period of two (2) years in developing and managing an active high-tech bioscience portfolio for a quasi-public organization that invests in and assists emerging Connecticut biotechnology companies. CI invests in early stage technology companies in Connecticut and plays an active role in supporting these ventures. The Investment Associate will be focused on sourcing opportunities, business development, investment processes and portfolio management. Investments of bioscience venture capital are made from the $204 million Connecticut Bioscience Innovation Fund (CBIF) administered by CI.
CI Investment Associates play a key role in executing our investment strategy by researching promising technology markets. They also participate in all phases of the investment process including; due diligence, meetings with management, focused company and industry research, financial modeling, writing investment recommendations, and supporting CI portfolio companies as board observers.
Qualified candidates must have a master’s degree in science and up to five (5) years of experience in life sciences. Business development/commercialization experience in a high growth, entrepreneurial biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies, or in bioscience venture capital firms, is preferred. Startup experience is a plus. A Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the general experience, and is a plus . The candidate should be self-starting, curious, flexible and have some knowledge of financial statements, business plans and other financial and legal documents, and strong oral and written communication skills. To be considered, candidates should have some entrepreneurial experience or exposure to start-up companies.
Responsibilities include: prospecting for new investment opportunities, screening and analysis of potential investments, conducting due diligence and competitive analysis, financial modeling and valuation analysis, collaborating with and supporting other members of the CI Ventures’ team, preparing reports and proposals regarding potential investments and portfolio companies, presenting investments for approval to CI advisory committees and committees of the CI Board of Directors, and assisting in identifying strategic, marketing and partnering opportunities for portfolio companies.
