VC Associate @ Avery Dennison in Boston, MA

The Venture Associate role is focused on supporting the management and expansion of Avery Dennison’s (Linkedin, Crunchbase) open innovation and venture investment portfolio. This role will work cross-functionally within R&D and M&A teams on projects. Ability to work cross-functional, influence others and knowledge of broader disruptive technology trends and startup ecosystems is critical.

In your role as Venture Associate, delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:

 

  • Researching market opportunities and trends
  • Translating novel capabilities uncovered by technology scouting team into compelling business opportunities
  • Engaging actively in a variety of startup ecosystems to uncover opportunities and generate substantial deal flow
  • Screening opportunities for venture investment or other form of strategic partnership (licensing, JDA, etc.)
  • Supporting leadership team members in the development of the investment thesis for an opportunity
  • Performing detailed analysis to validate or disprove the investment thesis of an opportunity
  • Communicating across business units and across functions to gather credible insights to evaluate opportunities

 

Supporting community building across the venture investment portfolio

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE TEAM:

Avery Dennison has a long history of being a market leader. Your history is important to us. It should include the following:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Finance, Accounting, Economics or related preferred

Experience:

 

  • 3+ years Finance experience or startup work experience required
  • 1-2 years of investment experience (VC/PE, investment banking, private equity) strongly preferred

Other:

 

  • Outstanding analytical skills, detail-oriented, proactive and self-motivated
  • Ability to translate novel capabilities uncovered by technology scouting team into compelling business opportunities
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques
  • Ability to produce well designed professional looking Powerpoint presentations for senior leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take on increased responsibility, special initiatives, and leadership role
  • Great networking skills

 

Travel up to 50%
