Alibaba Group is a leading global Internet company and China’s most popular e-commerce destination, with annual gross merchandise volume exceeding RMB 4 trillion. We established a US Investment organization in 2013 to focus on making strategic investments in North America, Europe and Latin America. We are currently looking for a full-time Associate to join our team. A few of our announced investments to date include:
- Zulily, a leading US eCommerce company for mothers and families (acquired by QVC for $2.4bn)
- Lyft, a peer-to-peer transportation platform that connects passengers with drivers
- Magic Leap, a visionary augmented reality/mixed-reality platform
- Amblin Partners, leading film/TV production company founded by Steven Spielberg
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Strategy: Identify industry trends and strategic areas for investment
- Due Diligence: Assist with competitive analysis, value proposition and product evaluation, deep financial modeling, interviews with industry experts, and presentations to the investment committee
- Connectivity: Frequent travel to China to meet with top executives and exchange strategic views
- Deal Tracking and Sourcing: Develop and maintain relationships with companies and stakeholders, including direct executive outreach and industry conference attendance
- Industry Focus: e-commerce and media/entertainment
Candidate Criteria:
- Undergraduate degree from a top university in a quantitative field
- A minimum of 1-3 years of work experience at a leading investment bank, consulting firm, or technology company in a corporate development or related capacity; e-commerce and/or media experience preferred
- Native fluency in Mandarin required (spoken and written)
- You would:
- Thrive working in a fast-paced start-up environment, while having the support of a 50,000 person firm
- Enjoy a job that involves travel, including frequent trips to China
- Like the challenge of being asked to operate outside of your comfort zone
- Feel comfortable challenging conventional wisdom and advocating for the road less traveled
