A day in the life…

The Senior Manager – Strategic Growth and Corporate Development will drive the development and execution of Nordstrom’s Strategic Growth agenda which will include a portfolio of initiatives to drive profitable topline business growth. Efforts include but are not limited to:

  • Stay at the forefront of the evolving customer landscape, including technology development, competitive moves, emerging players and new business platforms
  • Identify, evaluate and prioritize potential strategic growth opportunities
  • Drive the execution of structured investments including minority investments and acquisitions
  • Act as a resource to internal business partners supporting negotiating and structuring of key strategic initiatives to gain market share and improve margins

The Senior Manager – Strategic Growth and Corporate Development is motivated, proactive and results-oriented and has a unique blend of strategic, project management, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, fasted paced environment and takes ownership, and moves with speed to help drive new business development at Nordstrom. The Senior Manager – Strategic Growth and Corporate Development will collaborate with multiple cross-functional partners to create new business opportunities. This position reports to the Vice President – Strategic Growth: Corporate Development and Partnerships

Responsibilities:

  • Actively build and maintain productive relationships across a broad network of external partners including bankers, investors (e.g. venture capital firms and private equity) and early stage companies
  • Act as a key Brand Ambassador to potential business partners
  • Create a durable scalable process to create connectivity to the investment community and share learnings about the evolving customer landscape with internal business partners
  • Develop compelling storylines and materials that effectively communicate investment recommendations to the Corporate Development Committee, Executive Team and Board of Directors
  • Drive the investment decision process and transaction execution including analysis, due diligence, company valuations, negotiations, closing and integration
  • Effectively manage external vendors such as accountants and bankers

You own this if you have…

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred
  • 6+ years of related experience; experience in retail/e-commerce, management consulting, corporate strategy, investment banking, partnerships or similar field preferred
  • Demonstrated success in formulating strategy and ability to consume and interpret data
  • Strong business acumen and project management skills
  • Ability to successfully operate from a position of influence vs direct reporting by creating effective relationships and desire to collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels
  • Adept at prioritizing and planning multi-stakeholder initiatives, providing direction when needed and removing obstacles to get work done
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong strategic planning abilities and critical thinking skills
  • Maintains confidentiality without exception
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
