Senior VC Director @ Care Social Ventures in Birmingham, AL

CARE is an international NGO with local staff and community partners in more than 90 countries. We create local solutions to poverty and inequality and we seek dignity for everyone every day and during times of crisis. These solutions have a broad range, from clean water to access to education; from microfinance to ensuring that everyone has nutritious food; from agriculture and climate change to disaster response. CARE puts women and girls at the center of everything we do because they have proven to be the best hope for creating lasting change in the world. Our staff live where they work, which makes us effective at understanding the challenges they face. We’ve been doing this for over 70 years, since World War II. It started with the world’s first CARE Package® of food for the post-war hungry in Europe. Our work today is as important as ever, we believe that poverty and inequality are historic injustices that we can end within a generation, for good. If you share our core beliefs: poverty is an injustice; poverty is solvable; and together, we have the power to end it, join us.

CARE Social Ventures Corporation aims to be the global leader in helping transition aid based efforts fighting global poverty into social businesses. We are seeking a new executive leader to continue our rapid growth. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in brand management, general P&L management or management consulting and is ready to put their experience to work toward ending global poverty. By 2030, we expect to impact the lives of over 10 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America living below the $4/day global poverty line through the businesses we help create and support. We do this by helping organizations assess which grant-based programs are viable candidates to be converted into social businesses. Then we help hire, place and support senior leadership teams and boards of directors of each social business, as they transition legally, financially and operationally from an aid based program to a financially sustainable social business.

  • Building a network of relationships outside of CARE
  • Support Business Development staff as well as portfolio companies to raise the grants, debt and equity needed to grow
  • Helping teams inside of CARE to fund and launch new business concepts

Qualifications:

    • Fluent in English
    • 15+ years experience in P&L management or equivalent
    • General management responsibility for multiple businesses with strong revenue and profit growth track records
