Shell Technology Ventures (STV) invests approx 30-50 mln$ per annum in start-ups and has several hundreds of millions to spend over the coming 6 years. Although the initial investments are relatively modest – $1-5 mln per deal with $10-20 mln headline (spent over a deal’s lifecycle) – STV Deals are normally quite complex, with many stakeholders involved (both internally and externally), complex Intellectual Property (IP) considerations and unusual deal-structures. The Venture Principal is expected to lead and close 2+ investments per annum and is deeply involved in the implementation of the investments post-close.
The Venture Principal is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, structuring and implementing technology investment opportunities for Shell in the outside world, with the objective to create preferential access for Shell to these technologies and speed-up the deployment of new technologies in Shell. Shell Technology Ventures is Shell’s in-house Venture Capital (VC) Fund for doing minority investments in exciting technology start-ups. This is an all-round techno-commercial role in which the Venture Principal is asked to take an investment opportunity from “cradle to grave”: from scouting and delivery to implementation (act as member of the board and/or Shell’s shareholder representative).
